IS IT TRUE APRIL 6, 2015 CONCERNING UNAUTHORIZED LOAN?

IS IT TRUE that according to one of the “CCO’ WATER AND SEWER MOLES” the Indiana Utility Regulatory and the State Board of Accounts is about ready to be placed on notice concerning the alleged unlawful requisition of $2.5 million dollars from the Evansville Water & Sewer Utility and deposited into the City Evansville General Fund?

IS IT TRUE that without this unapproved $2.5 million dollar requisition from the Evansville Water and Sewer department to the City of Evansville General Fund this fund would have ended the year with a negative  balance?

IS IT TRUE that the State Board of Account audited financial statement concerning the Utility released on February 13, 2015 discloses missing CASH of nearly $400,000 and the Winnecke Administration simply states that the State Board of Accounts does not know how to audit?  …we must remember that  the SBOA exit conference disclosed that the City of Evansville would be receiving a not so clean report and then magically the official audit report was released to the public as clean as a new born babe’s behind? …all we can say about this is “WOW”?

IS IT TRUE that City Councilman John Friend, CPA recently sent City Councilman Budget Chairman  Conor O’Daniel an alarming e-mail concerning unauthorized  transfer of funds from the Evansville Water and Sewer department to the City of Evansville General Fund?  …we have attached a copy of the Mr. Friend e-mail to Conor O’Daniel?

IS IT TRUE this e-mail stated “when I was analyzing the changes in fund balance of the water and sewer at the December 31, 2014 year end, I noticed that the utility fund balances had declined by nearly $2.5 million of dollars which prompted me to drill down into the numbers.  I discovered that the Winnecke Administration transferred $2,455,410.64 of money from the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility department to the City of Evansville General Fund in the month of December 2014.  Apparently, this flies in the face of the 2014 budget that was approved by the City Council and the Department of Local Government Finance.  If you recall that during the Water and Sewer Utility department exit conference, I mentioned to City Controller Russ Lloyd,  Jr my concerns that  the City hasn’t repaid the Water and Sewer Utility department the approximate $2.5 million dollars loan they owe to the Utility department.  I stressed to Russ he should repay this unauthorized loan back to the Water and Sewer Utility department soon as possible.   Conner, as the Finance Chair for City Council you need to be aware of this unauthorized transfer of City of Evansville Water and Sewer  Utility department to the City of Evansville General Fund should report it to the State Board of Accounts soon as possible”?

Watoto Children’s Choir Will Be Performing In Evansville

The Children’s Choir from Africa will perform at Bethel UCC on Green River Road on Thursday April 16 at 6:00pm.
The Watoto motto is Rescue, Raise, Rebuild and works with the orphans and widows of war-torn Africa. Bring your family, neighbors and friends to an evening of energetic entertainment and inspiration. Watoto Children’s Choir is a group of African children choirs based in Kampala, Uganda, at Watoto Church(formerly Kampala Pentecostal Church or KPC). Each is composed of about twenty-two children from Uganda.

Watoto means “Children” in Swahili language. The choir is made up of children who have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic or to war.[1] The choir has toured Asia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Israel, The Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States with a team of Ugandan adults.

Their performances are a blend of native African rhythms, contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance. They have released several albums including Mambo Sawa and Beautiful Africa. Their unique ministry also comprisesWatoto Child Care Ministries, three babies homes, three primary schools, a high school and a vocational school.

In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month in April, the Arts Council will be hosting a Jazz Film in the gallery.

Information on Jazz Appreciation Month Event

Kay D. Ray has produced a documentary entitled Lady Be Good: Instrumental Women in Jazz.  Ms. Ray will be in Indiana from April 10-14, 2015.

Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Ray worked with Microsoft Studios and was the senior film producer for the Experience Music Project. During this time, she developed and created over 85 films and directed numerous interviews.

Kay D. Ray is originally from Evansville.  Her family moved to the Pacific Northwest to work at Boeing Aircraft.  Her father attended Evansville College in the 1940s.

There will be two screenings of the film, with the first one being at 12 noon.  At this time the public will enjoy a short Q&A with Ms. Ray.

The second part of the day will begin at 6:30 pm with a short set of jazz.

Monika Herzig is heading up the group that is bringing Ms. Ray into the area.  Monika (piano) will bring an all-female jazz group, featuring Jenna Mattingly (bass) and Arianna Fanning (drums) to Evansville.  After the live jazz, there will be the second screening of the film and a short presentation by the filmmaker.

Ms. Herzig has a Doctorate in Music and Jazz Studies at Indiana University and currently teaches classes on the music industry, creativity and programming and the community art organizations at IU.  She is the co-founder of Jazz from Bloomington and she is on the board of the Jazz Education Network.  Ms Herzig founded ACME Records, which is home to jazz ensembles the Monika Herzig Acoustic Project, Kwyjibo, Third Man, and Beeblebox.

In 2011, Ms. Herzig authored a collaborative book on the life of scholar and Jazz icon, David Baker, entitled “David Baker – A Legacy in Music”.

This event will be held at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana Bower-Suhrhenrich Foundation (BSF) Gallery on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.  Ms. Ray will present the film first at noon at the BSF Gallery.  At 6:30 pm, Monika Herzig and her female jazz ensemble will play for approximately 45 minutes.  At 8 pm, the documentary will begin.  After the film is over, there will be a short lecture and an opportunity to talk with the filmmaker.  There will be light catering (beer, wine, etc) provided at this event.

USI plans military veteran workshop for future health practitioners

Local and national military experts are joining forces with faculty members from the University of Southern Indiana to teach future care providers about the unique challenges facing combat veterans and their families. The Veterans Interprofessional Case Competition, planned for Tuesday, April 7 at USI, will give 30 USI undergraduate and graduate students an introduction to military culture and make them aware of post-combat readjustment experiences and the often complex needs of veterans of all ages.

 

“Over the past 50 years, nearly eight million United States military personnel have been deployed to wars in Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Dr. Vaughn DeCoster, associate professor of social work, who served in Iraq as a clinical social worker with the Army Reserves. “Including families and friends of these troops, the quantity of people affected by these wars is staggering. Given these numbers, area healthcare providers are likely treating this population or someone affected by their war experiences. We want to give our students pursuing careers in healthcare and social service areas an introduction to dealing with war-exacerbated issues, especially as these veterans age.”

 

Health and social service practitioners must remain sensitive to this, and work as a team to provide coordinated, quality care for these veterans and their families. For this reason, the USI case competition is planned for students from the following disciplines: Social Work, Occupational Therapy (OT), Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Nursing and Food and Nutrition.

 

The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the presentation of the colors by USI’s Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) color guard, under the direction of Major Christopher Dalrymple, assistant professor of military science at USI.

 

During the workshop, Tony Sanabria, a retired lieutenant colonel with more than 25 years of active duty service in the military, will share experiences from his tours in Germany, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan and the issues many of his fellow veterans face after deployment.

 

Interdisciplinary student teams will also hear case vignettes presented by veterans. Each team will then create a viable intervention plan and present this plan to a panel of experts.

 

“This activity is unique because it combines essential knowledge of the military, combat and post-war readjustment, along with evidence-based approaches and local resources,” said DeCoster. “During this team activity, students will apply what they have learned and interact with care providers and actual representatives from the veteran patient population. This is a great opportunity for the student teams to learn assessment skills, identify key problems, develop a holistic intervention plan and problem solve possible care challenges.”

 

Bill to designate the official state warbird passes the Indiana House

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Ron Bacon (R-Chandler) has sponsored a bill to designate the Republic Aviation P-47 Thunderbolt as the official state warbird of Indiana. Tuesday, Senate Bill (SB) 370 bill was passed unanimously by the Indiana House of Representatives.

 

The Republic Aviation P-47 Thunderbolt was the only World War II production aircraft built in Indiana. It was produced in Evansville from 1942 to August 1945.

 

“This is a small way for us to remember those Hoosiers who contributed so much to America’s efforts in World War II,” said Rep. Bacon. “The P-47 Thunderbolt flew combat in nearly all critical operations of the war and played a key role in the allied victory. I am proud of the historical contributions our community has made, and I am pleased to help recognize them.”
