Dr. Bucshon Votes to Protect Email User Privacy Rights

2

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – This week, Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. voted for legislation that updates the decades-old federal law governing the collection of electronic communications data to protect Americans’ privacy and improve public safety.  H.R. 699, the Email Privacy Act, passed the House 409 to 0.

“Believe it or not, the laws governing electronic communications have not been updated since 1986 – long before email became a common form of communication.  That’s six years before the first text message and twelve years before Google,” said Bucshon.  “As a result, certain government bureaucrats have the legal authority to access private emails and other electronic communications without obtaining a warrant. This is a clear violation of privacy and a violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution.  I’m happy to be a part of this effort to update this law and protect the privacy of Hoosiers.”

BACKGROUND:

Nearly 30 years ago, Congress passed the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) of 1986 to create a system to protect the privacy rights of customers and subscribers of computer network service providers and govern requests to obtain stored content, records, or other information, including stored emails, text or instant messages, documents, videos, or sound recordings stored in the cloud. ECPA applies not only to federal criminal investigations and prosecutions, but to state and local investigations and prosecutions, public safety requests, and civil investigations in which stored communications of these types of information are sought.

There is broad consensus that ECPA is outdated and contains insufficient protections for Americans’ privacy.  The Email Privacy Act, sponsored by Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.), modernizes ECPA to protect Americans’ privacy and provide government officials with tools needed for its investigations.

Why the Email Privacy Act is important:

·         Last year, more than 232 million Americans sent an email at least once per month.

·         More than 207 million Americans use a smartphone, including 85 percent of Americans ages 18-29.

·         Americans send more than one billion text messages each year.

IS IT TRUE APRIL 29

37

IS IT TRUE  we  have just been informed that the year long SIGTARP criminal investigation concerning the City of Evansville “Blight Elimination Program” conducted by the Office Of The Special Inspector General is still ongoing?  …it looks like the City of Evansville DMD Director didn’t tell members of City Council and his media buddies the real truth about this issue? …we hope that the new owners of the Evansville Courier and Press will demand that their new employees do some serious investigative reporting on this developing story?  …if  the media will contact the Office Of The Special Inspector General For The Troubled Asset Relief Program located in Washington DC and ask for the Special Agent Investigation Division they could verify if the above statement is correct?

IS IT TRUE that yesterdays Donald Trump political gathering was a resounding success?  …we predict that Mr. Trump shall win Indiana by a big margin?  …we wonder why Mayor Winnecke and Republican party Chairman wasn’t involved in Mr. Trump visit?  …the turnout of people from all walks of life indicate they are tied of the political “BULL SHIT”?

IS IT TRUE on Tuesday former President Bill Clinton made two stops in Evansville ? …he stopped by the Central Labor Council of Southern Indiana and Penny Lane Coffeehouse? …he had an unannounced private meeting with a couple of local individuals? …some of the individuals who attended this private gathering were: former City Councilman John Friend CPA, former Sheriff and U S Congressman Brad Ellsworth, 8th District Democratic Party Chairman Tony Long, Vanderburgh County Party Chairman Rob Faulkner, and past Democratic Party Chairman Mark Owen,  Sherrianne  Standley, Democrat State Party Treasurer and Matt Neville Democratic Party employee?  …we were told that many present and past office holders were not properly notified about these meetings by Clintons staff?  …we hear that many past and present Democratic office holders were extremely  disappointed by not being invited to meet the 42nd President of the United States?

IS IT TRUE  that yesterday Courier & Press includes two separate legal notices telling taxpayers of hearings that City Council will hold at its May 9 meeting?   …both notices of additional appropriations from the General Fund was for $128,452 and the other was for $1.7 million?  … the additional appropriations request in excess of the budget for the current year?  …the legal notices state that “taxpayers appearing at the meeting shall have a right to be heard.” ?  …similar appropriations totaling millions from various city funds have already been approved this year with unanimous votes and with very little explanation.?  …doesn’t this spending in excess of the approved budget alarm anyone?  …doesn’t  any taxpayers wonder why this administration is clearly spending outside the approved budget to the tune of millions of dollars?  …more importantly why isn’t anyone on City Council concerned about the over spending habits beyond 2016 approved budget?  …we wonder why the newly appointed City Council Finance Chairman Dan McGinn hasn’t questioned the excessive  pending habits of the Winnecke Administration?

FOOTNOTE:  Todays “Readers Poll” questions is: Who do you endorse in the Democratic primary race for President?

Katterhenry Finished Second In Conference Championship

ST. LOUIS – University of Evansville junior Kayla Katterhenry earned another accolade as she was named to the 2016 MVC Women’s Scholar-Athlete First Team, announced by the league office today. A total of 16 student-athletes received recognition by earning either first-team or honorable-mention honors.

Golfer of the Year Danielle Lemek is one of four repeat first-team picks on the team, voted on by the league’s golf sports information directors. Those who earned first-team honors this year and last include Brooke Cusumano of Southern Illinois, Lemek, Kayla Katterhenry of Evansville, and Bryce Schroeder of Wichita State. Joining Glennie and those four on the first team are Meghan Jack of Wichita State, Taryn Torgerson of Wichita State and Kiley Walsh of Illinois State.

In addition to the eight first-team selections, eight student-athletes received honorable mention selection by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes. A total of 29 student-athletes were nominated for women’s golf scholar-athlete honors.

Notably, of the eight student-athletes on the first team, six also earned all-conference honors, including medalist Taryn Torgerson, runner-up finisher Kayla Katterhenry and third-place finisher Danielle Lemek.

UE softball welcomes Missouri State this weekend

Aces and Bears ready for 3-game set

The final weekend home series of the season is set to begin on Friday as the University of Evansville softball team welcomes Missouri State to Cooper Stadium for a 3-game series.

A schedule change has been made as the action begins on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. with the second game beginning at approximately 6 p.m.  On Saturday, the series finale will begin at 12 p.m.

Senior Day is set to take place following the second game on Friday as two student-athletes will be honored.  Pitcher Amanda Blankenship transferred to UE for the 2015 season and has pitched extremely well in her senior campaign.  Though not officially a senior, Danielle Freeman is set for her final home week.  She will complete her softball career this spring while concentrating on a return to swimming for the 2016-17 season.

The train kept on rolling this week for the Purple Aces as they swept a doubleheader at Southern Illinois before taking two out of three games against Indiana State.  Evansville has now won four conference series in a row for the first time since 2013.  The Aces are also 8-2 in their last 10 league games, another streak that was matched in 2013.  With 10 victories in league play, the Aces are having one of their best seasons over the last 12 years.  The program notched 11 wins in 2008 and 2013 and 12 in 2007.  A 13-12 mark in 2004 marked the last time UE finished conference play at .500 or above.

In the last eight MVC road contest, the Aces are an impressive 6-2, including 5-1 in their last six.  The last time UE has had a similar road streak came in 1999 and 2000.  Evansville won five of its last six league road games in 1999 and their streak extended to 6-2 in the first two MVC road games of the 2000 campaign.

Morgan Florey has come out on fire in her first season at UE.  The 4-time MVC Newcomer of the Week ranks 3rd in the MVC with an ERA of 2.01.  Her strikeout total of 189 is second in the league, just behind leader Nicole Newman of Drake.

Over the course of the last week, catcher Hayli Scott batted .400 as the Purple Aces went 4-1 in MVC play while moving up to 5th place in the conference standings.  She recorded a hit in 6 of her 15 at-bats, hitting four doubles while notching three runs and two RBIs

Missouri State comes to Evansville with a 17-27 mark and are 6-12 in conference play.  Olivia Roark is the top hitter for MSU, checking in at .378 while Madison Jones has better .317.  In the circle, Kaitlin Beason has notched an ERA of 3.56 in her 21 appearances.  Erin Struemph leads the Bears with 10 wins in her 31 games.  She has struck out 137 batters while notching an ERA of 3.95.

UE Tennis Heads To MVC Team Championships

0

University of Evansville women’s tennis (8-19, 0-7) heads back to Wichita State this weekend to take on the Shockers in the first round of the MVC Team Championships.  The Aces were in Wichita this past Saturday and were defeated at the hand of the Shockers by a score of 4-0.  The Aces come into the match as the 8th seed in the tournament.  The Shockers on the other hand come into the match as the #1 seed and are currently ranked 28th in the nation according to the ITA.

The MVC Team Championships will likely wrap up the season for the Aces.  This also means that it will likely be the final couple of matches for Aces Senior Marina Moreno.

Going into the match, the Aces found out Tuesday that Aces Junior Andjela Brguljan was named Academic All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Head Coach Jayson Wiseman said on Brguljan’s accomplishment, “We are exceptionally proud of Andjela, and she is deserving of this honor.  Andjela is a perfect example of what UE athletics is really all about; success on the playing field, even more successful in the classroom.  It’s nice to see the rest of the league recognizing her for her outstanding academic achievement.”

In the event that the Aces move past the Shockers in the first round they will play the winner of the match between Illinois State and Bradley.
