Rodney Carrington has been making audiences laugh for almost twenty years with his unique brand of stand-up comedy. The country singer-songwriter has recorded eight major label comedy albums which have sold more than two million copies … two of which have been certified Gold. His most recent special ‘Laughter’s Good’ is now available on Netflix.

Rodney Carrington started his own record label “Laughter’s Good” and released two albums under the new label in October 2014. Rodney re-released “C’Mon Laugh You Bastards” which features 3 new songs, as well as an album of all new material called “Laughter’s Good.”

In addition to starting his own record label, Rodney started a new YouTube series in October 2014 called “Bit By Bit.” In the series, he releases new material one piece at a time on a weekly basis.

According to Pollstar, Rodney has been one of the top ten highest grossing touring comedians for the last 10 years, and among the top 4 or 5 the last several years. His popularity derives in large part, from his connection to his audience both at his live shows, as well as social media. By the looks of his schedule in 2017, he shows no signs of slowing down!

Judge tosses lawsuit by Jared Fogle’s ex-wife against Subway

An Indiana judge has thrown out a lawsuit filed by former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s ex-wife, which alleged that the fast-food chain continued promoting Fogle as its spokesman even though it knew of his sexual interest in children.

Boone County Judge Matthew Kincaid dismissed Kathleen McLaughlin’s suit Tuesday, citing a “lack of personal jurisdiction.” His order states that each of the Subway entities she had sued have principal business operations outside Indiana and were formed in Connecticut and Florida.

The judge heard arguments last month in Subway’s bid to have the suit dismissed.

McLaughlin alleged that Subway received at least three reports indicating Fogle had a sexual interest in children, but failed to take proper action and continued promoting him as its spokesman. Fogle pleaded guilty in 2015 to trading in child pornography and paying for sex with underage girls. He’s serving a 15-year sentence at a federal prison in Colorado.

McLaughlin and Fogle, who have two children, divorced in 2015 after he agreed to plead guilty to the charges.

The 40-year-old Fogle became Subway’s spokesman after losing 200 pounds as a college student, partly by eating Subway sandwiches. The company ended its relationship with Fogle after authorities raided his suburban Indianapolis home in July 2015.

Kincaid wrote in his order that McLaughlin’s suit argued that Subway had used her marriage to Fogle “to ‘ground’ their valuable pitchman” and that the company then “created a campaign depicting a wholesome narrative of Mr. Fogle’s life and emergence as a family man.”

“The problem is that all of those things, if they happened, took place outside of Indiana,” the judge wrote.

A message seeking comment on the suit’s dismissal was left Wednesday for McLaughlin’s attorney.

IS IT TRUE FOR OCTOBER 5, 2017

9

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we as responsible citizens of this community need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE we are told on Monday that the Evansville City Council will formally vote to raise the County Option Income Tax (COIT) without seeking any input or meeting directly with our elected county officials?.

IS IT TRUE its obvious that the Evansville City Council is not only practicing “taxation without representation” but also “taxation without explanation” attitude by the raising the County Option Income Tax without seeking county council members input?

IS IT TRUE we are also told that City Council will make a general statement that the $8 million dollars collected from COIT taxes will specifically be used for public safety?  …we wonder if this statement means that the majority of the COIT funds can be used to pay for city employee health insurance costs? … the devil is in the details?

IS IT TRUE don’t be surprised to hear that the county will decide to use their allocation” of COIT funds to build a new addition to the Vanderburgh County jail? … we feel compelled to warn our county officials that a new addition to the county jail will cost way more than the approx. $3 million dollars that they will receive from COIT taxes?

IS IT TRUE the taxpayers of Evansville still do not know where Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke stands on the proposed  COIT tax increase?  …we are hearing that many of the city taxpayers want to know if Mayor Winnecke is for or against the proposed County Option Income Tax increase for 2018?  …we hope that Mayor Winnecke will make a public statement if he’s for or against the COIT tax increase before City Council votes on this issue next Monday?

IS IT TRUE that our Civic Center “Moles” tell us that Mayor Winnecke has decided to not to mess with the “HOMESTEAD TAX CREDIT” in 2018?  …it looks like the Mayor made a smart political move concerning this issue?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why City Council Finance Chairman Dan McGinn (R) hasn’t informed members of City Council how much did it cost the taxpayers to subsidize the Evansville Thunderbolts operating expenses during the 2017 hockey season?

IS IT TRUE that it has been reported that the management group that is in charge of the McCurdy apartments in Downtown Evansville face a $750,000 water/sewer bill for a 5 month period starting April 1st and ending September 30th?…the bill happened as a result of The Kunkel Group’s installation of an open-loop geothermal system to heat and cool the recently embattled Riverfront building?… the City of Evansville estimates, the McCurdy sends 12 million gallons of water to the treatment plant per month, which amounts to 3 percent of the East Side treatment facility’s capacity?… This exorbitant cost has the potential to be the death knell of the McCurdy as it amounts to $150,000 per month which equates to over $1,500 per apartment per month?… The Kunkel Group is thought to have invested $10 million into redeveloping the historic building, which faces the Ohio River?…we are concerned for the future of renewable energy in Evansville, In as the rent for these apartments to sustain the operational cash flow will have to be between $2,500 and $3,000 per month for the operator to have any incentive to do anything but dump the McCurdy back onto the market at which time it will most likely sit there unoccupied for another 9 years or more?
IS IT TRUE this is the same McCurdy that former Mayor Weinzapfel consigned to a political supporter from Indianapolis right after sinking over $1.5 million taxpayer dollars into incentives and a free parking lot?…the former use was as an old folks home and the residents were forced to march up the street to another facility leaving the McCurdy to accelerate the degradation process?…we certainly hope that something can be done to correct this situation as between the electric rates, the coming oppressive water rates, and a maniacal distaste for clean renewable energy, much of Evansville’s housing stock could be rendered valueless by excessive operational costs?
FOOTNOTES: We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we as responsible citizens of this community need to address in a rational and responsible way?
Todays READERS POLL question is: Do feel that Mayor Winnecke should sit down with the Vanderburgh County elected officials to discuss the COIT taxes issue?

Washington Teachers Receive EVSC’s October Cause for Applause Award

0

Two Washington Middle School teachers – Matthew Happe and Joe Newman – are the recipients of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s October Cause for Applause award. The award seeks to recognize individuals who go above and beyond their normal job responsibilities.

Happe and Newman were nominated by the staff of Washington Middle School and by Principal Michelle Branson for their efforts in turning an old health room at the school into an exercise and weight room for students and staff.

“A year and a half ago our teachers dreamed of having a place to teach students the value of fitness and to encourage our staff and students to get healthy,” wrote Michelle Branson, Washington principal. “Through Donors Choose, Facebook requests, community outreach, faculty donations and grant orders, Matt Happe and Joe Newman have fulfilled that dream.”

According to Branson, on any given day teachers will be working out before and after school and Happe will write fitness and wellness plans for staff and leave workout routines posted in the room.  The teachers also have incorporated the room in their PE curriculum to ensure students understand the proper weight lifting techniques and different types of workouts that are available.

“Their mission of healthy bodies and minds has definitely impacted both our students and faculty at Washington Middle School,” Branson wrote.

Anyone can nominate an employee of the EVSC for the award. Deadline for nominations is the third Friday of each month. To nominate an EVSC employee, go to www.evscschools.com and click on About Us and see Cause for Applause under Community. Paper forms are available at the schools for those without access to the Internet.
