Evansville man arrested on robbery charge after Thursday bank heist

Evansville Police arrested 19 year old DERRICK FARIA after he robbed a bank on Thursday.
Police were called to the 5/3rd Bank at 691 E Diamond around 2:00pm for a hold up in progress. FARIA passed a bank teller a note, but did not display a weapon. No injuries were reported.
FARIA left before officers arrived, but witnesses were able to give a good physical description of FARIA. Witnesses also told police FARIA left in a U-Cabby taxi.
Police learned FARIA had been picked up and dropped off at a home in the 1600 block of W. Missouri. FARIA was found at the home and cooperated with police when told to come out of the home. He was taken into custody without incident.
FARIA was captured within 40 minutes of the robbery. He was charged with Robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Unidentified Male Recovered In White River, Marion County

Indiana Conservation Officers and Indianapolis Metro Police Department are investigating a body that has been recovered from the White River under the Westfield Bridge near Broad Ripple.  A passerby noticed what they believed to be a body and notified police.

The body has not been identified and no details concerning the cause of death are available.  An autopsy is pending.

Shoulders Lecture Series Presents Glenn Gass

The Shoulders Family Commons Lecture Series will present “She Loves You to Sgt. Pepper: Rock & Roll Becomes High Art,” a lecture by Author and Professor Glenn Gass. The lecture will take place on Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. in the Shoulders Family Commons at Harrison High School.

Gass is Provost Professor of Music in General Studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He teaches a series of courses he developed on the history of rock and popular music that were the first to be offered through a music school. They are now the longest running courses of their kind in the world.

Gass is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Herman B. Wells Lifetime Achievement Award, Indiana University Sylvia Bowman Distinguished Teaching Award, IU Student Alumni Association Student Choice Award, and Society of Professional Journalists Brown Derby Award. He was inducted into the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching and is the author of A History of Rock Music: The Rock & Roll Era (MCGraw-Hill, 1994).

Clare And Ted Ziemer Jr Are County Observer “Outstanding Community Services Award” Winners

Our first “Outstanding Community Services Award” winners for 2018 are the popular and generous Clare and Ted Ziemer Jr.  The St. Vincent Hospital Foundation created the “Ted & Clare Ziemer Society,” a fundraising arm of St. Vincent-Evansville Foundation to benefit needy pediatric patients and others. Over the years they have raised many hundreds of thousands of dollars to help the less fortunate of our community.

CLARE D. ZIEMER has Bachelor of Science degree from St. Mary of the Woods College.  Her current and past community boards involvement are: Cancer Society-house to house campaign-Co-Chair; Philharmonic Guild Board; Member Dance Chairman; Pops Concert Co-Chair, Junior League Officer-corresponding Secretary; Charity Ball Chairman-50th Anniversary Chairman; other chairmanships, elected to Holy Rosary School Board Secretary for 3 years, Wesselman Park Guide-Trail Guide, Hostess and Cook for Philharmonic parties; Jr. League Party; St. Mary’s Hospital (now St. Vincent’s) Christmas parties (annual) Cornette Ball Co-Chairman with her husband Ted.

TED C. ZIEMER, JR  has a Bachelor of Science, St. Louis University (1956).  He earned his Bachelor of Laws from  Indiana University School of Law (Bloomington) in 1962.  Ted is a partner in the Law Firm of Ziemer, Stayman, Weitzel & Shoulders, LLP.  His law firm specializes in Banking and Financial Services, Construction and Economic Development, Health Care, Corporation, Probate, Real Estate and Municipal Law.  He was admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana in 1962 and was admitted to practice United States District Court, Southern District of Indiana in 1962  Mr. Ziemer is Corporate Council for City of Evansville (2012 to present).

Mr. Ziemer is a Member (by appointment of the Governor), Board of Trustees of the University of Southern Indiana from July 1, 2007, to present, Vice Chairman for Long Range Planning in 2010 and Vice Chairman for Finance in 2011. He was elected as Chairman of the USI Board of Trustees (July 1, 2011, to July 1, 2014) He is a member of the Board of Trustees of University of Southern Indiana Foundation (1978 to Present). He was elected as Vice Chairman for Development (1985-1991), Chairman (1992 to 1998); member of the Board of Directors of Vanderburgh County Chapter of American Red Cross (2000 to Present).

He was past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Southwest Indiana Public Broadcasting, Inc. He was Chairman of the Annual Public Television Auction. Ted was a Member, Board of Directors of Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce, Inc. since 1980, Chairman (1986-1987).

Mr Ziemer was a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, Inc. since 1975 and was President from 1981-1983. Member, Board of Directors of United Way of Southwestern Indiana, Inc. since 1970 and was  President in 1977. In 1976 Ted was Chairman of United Way Campaign for Greater Evansville Area.

Mr. Ziemer is Corporate Council for City of Evansville 2012 to present). He was Finance Committee Chairmen of Lloyd Winnecke for Mayor Campaign Committee from 2012 to present.

When Ted was Chairman of the Daughters of Charity Capital Campaign for Retirement Residence for Daughters of Charity in the East Central Region in 1987 his committee raised  $3,000,000. As past Chairman of the  St. Mary’s Medical Center (now St. Vincent’s) his raised $2,500,000 for the Capital Campaign.

Mr. Ziemer was voted Evansville’s Outstanding Young Man of 1968 by Evansville Junior Chamber of Commerce; Recipient of First Annual March of Dimes Citizen of the Year Award ; Recipient of Rotary Annual Civic Award for Distinguished Service to City of Evansville; Recipient of Evansville Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award in 2005; Recipient of United Way of Southwestern Indiana Volunteer of the Year Award in 2004; Honorary Doctor of Laws, University of Southern Indiana (1999); Recipient of St. Vincent de Paul Award from St. Mary’s Medical Center of Evansville, Inc. (1999); Elected to Bruté Society of Catholic Diocese of Evansville (2005); Recipient of Evansville Community Foundation Spirit of Giving Award and $2,000 Charitable Grant to charitable institution of my choice (Daughters of Charity of Southern Indiana)

He and his Wife, Clare, have three (3) children Ellen Clare, Kathryn Diane and Theodore Charles IV.

Their daughter, Ellen Clare Stratman, has four children who are: Marley Stratman, Sam Stratman, Leila Stratman, and Patrick Stratman

Their daughter, Kathryn Diane Cavallero, has two children who are: Chase Evers and Luca Cavallero

Their son, Ted C. Ziemer IV has three children who are: Ted C. Ziemer V, Linus Ziemer and Hugo Ziemer

This year’s awards luncheon will be held at Tropicana-Evansville Walnut rooms A and B. The registration begins at 11:30 am, the event officially starts at 12 noon on March 19, 2018.  This year’s event was a sellout.
