Lgbt Pride Picnic is this Sunday

The 39th annual Tri-State Alliance LGBTQ Pride Picnic will be held on Sunday, June 10 from 12 noon until 8pm at Burdette Park Bishea Shelter, 5301 Nurrenbern Road in Evansville. The day will feature music, food and a family-friendly drag show from 530-8pm.

Music acts include Melissa Zenner at 12 noon, Benny Jenkins at 1 pm, Angel Rhodes at 230 and Casey Williams at 4 pm.

Interior Design Sensation Joe Ruggiero is Coming to Enjole´ Interiors

Retail store and design firm, Enjole´ Interiors, will host famed interior designer, Joe Ruggiero, on June 6th at its 313 Main Street location in Downtown Evansville. In addition to shopping the Joe Ruggiero Collection of fabrics and furniture featured at the store, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the designer at a public Meet & Greet, June 6th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Hors d’oeuvres and adult libations will be served and visitors may sign-up for giveaways as well receive special savings on select items. LOS ANGELES, CA (June 5, 2018) – Earlier this year Southern Rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd announced that after a career that has spanned more than 40 years and includes a catalog of more than 60 albums with more than 30 million units sold, they would embark on their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour. Produced by Live Nation, the career-concluding two-year farewell tour will have logged over 50 stops by the end of 2018.

The first leg of dates this year kicked off Friday, May 4 in West Palm Beach, FL at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre. The South Florida Insider said of opening night, “…this was a kick-ass rock concert that delivered all the energy, feel, and attitude that you’d ever want and/or need from a rock band.It was lit!”

Tickets for the second leg of 2018 shows go on sale to the general public starting Friday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. local time at LiveNation.com. The farewell tour will continue to take the band across the country through the remainder of this year and all of next year, giving fans one last unforgettable night of classic American Rock-and-Roll. 2019 tour dates will be announced soon.

About Lynyrd Skynyrd

Original members Ronnie Van Zant, Bob Burns, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, and Larry Junstrom formed the band in 1964, originally known as My Backyard, the band changed to its famous name in the early 1970s, and became popular in the Jacksonville, FL area, where the original members were from. They signed with Sounds of the South Records in 1972, and released their self-titled disc the following year. The album that featured “Free Bird,” arguably the most- recognized single in the Southern Rock genre, has sold more than 2 million units since its release. Later down the road the band recorded iconic tracks “Sweet Home Alabama” and “What’s Your Name.”

The band’s story took a tragic turn in October 1977 when a plane crash took the lives of Van Zant,Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, and several of their road crew. The band took a decade-long hiatus before reuniting for a tour and live album, Southern by the Grace of God. Since then, the band has toured and recorded extensively, with their most recent release being Last Of ADyin’ Breed. The band’s current line-up includes original member Rossington, Johnny Van Zant,Rickey Medlocke, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, DaleKrantz Rossington and Carol Chase. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Evansville District Wins First Place in Annual Shooting Competition

Ever since 1946, the  Indiana State Police has held a firearms match every year and state troopers compete to outscore each other in a handgun target shooting competition. This year’s contest, which was held last Friday, June 1, was at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, IN.  The competition consisted of 16 four-person teams from each of the Indiana State Police Posts, Indiana State Police General Headquarters and officers from the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section. The four member team from the Evansville Post finished in first place.

The troopers who represented the Indiana State Police Evansville Post were as follows:

  • Sergeant George Smith
  • Sergeant Russ Werkmeister
  • Senior Trooper/Detective Wes Kuykendall
  • Senior Trooper Korey Mauck

The competition consists of three courses of fire utilizing a bulls-eye target at 25 yards.  The shooters stand and shoot their issued 45 caliber Sig Sauer semiautomatic handguns one handed. The first course of fire is the “slow fire” course of 10 rounds in five minutes.  The second course of fire is the “timed fire” course consisting of two strings of five rounds in 20 seconds. The final course of fire is the “rapid fire” course which consists of two strings of five rounds in 10 seconds, each for a total of 30 rounds.  All competitors shoot the course twice.
