Holcomb Statement on Secretary of State Connie Lawson Ressignation

0

Governor Eric J. Holcomb gave the following statement regarding Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson announcement’s that she will step down:

“Indiana’s own Iron Lady, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, has long defined what true public service and leadership is and ought to be all about. Throughout her time in county, legislative and statewide office, she set the standard for commitment, composure, class and credibility.  No matter the year or issues of the day, citizens could bank on Connie Lawson leading the way and inspiring others to follow.

“A trailblazer, holder of state records, even serving alongside three Governors as Secretary of State, through it all, Connie has remained universally respected by veterans and the next generation alike.

“I’ll forever count myself fortunate and proud to say, ‘I served with Connie Lawson.’

“And, while she’ll no longer be just down the hall from my Statehouse office, I know that she will continue to be a trusted advisor and great friend.

“I wish her and her husband Jack and their entire family happy trails upon her retirement and congratulate her on her immediate induction into the Hoosier Pantheon of all-time great public servants.”

The Kentucky Family Foundation Declares “That They Won The Argument, But Lost The Fight”

LEXINGTON, KY — “We won the argument, but lost the fight,” said Martin Cothran, spokesman for The Family Foundation after SB 120, the slots bill, passed the Kentucky House in a close vote. “Logic and common sense won the legal fight in Court, but money and political power won the political fight in the General Assembly.”

“The horse industry won today, but will lose in the future as mechanized gambling eventually pushes it out, and the state loses because it gets a pittance from these machines and supporters of this bill refused to raise the tax rate.”

The Foundation pointed to the fact that many members voted for the bill while at the same time admitting it was a bad bill as they cast their votes. “As one journalist put it, many of the bill’s votes came from legislators who were voting ‘against themselves.’

“Lawmakers voted against themselves just like the industry voted against itself. And when you pass legislation you admit is bad, it’s usually a sign of two things: money and power.”

Cothran also said that although it lost the political fight, the very fact that the legislature had to pass what many admitted was an unconstitutional bill to deal with illegal gambling was proof that The Family Foundation (supported by the Court) was right. “Otherwise, they wouldn’t have thought this bill was necessary.”

The Foundation also said that it was bad for the horse industry itself. “The Kentucky horse industry will rue the day it made common cause with its own competition,” said Cothran.

“We have said all along that this bill would not save the horse industry, but would replace it. Horses are fast, but mechanized gambling is faster–and more profitable. This is why the horse industry asked us to become involved in this fight twenty-six years ago. They then made a deal with the Devil, and it will come back to haunt them. At some point in the future, they will remember that they were right the first time, and then no one will be able to help them.”

“This was a Pyrrhic victory for the horse industry–a win that looks like a win, but is really a loss. It’s a sad day for the horse industry.”

Sincerely,

Kent Ostrander

Executive Director

“Frontier Leagues Names Lee “Commissioner Emeritus”’

0

The Frontier League announced today after 27 years as Commissioner, Bill Lee will be retiring and assuming the role of “Commissioner Emeritus” effective March 1st, 2021. Lee has served as Commissioner of the Frontier League since 1994 and will continue to serve as a consultant for the League and attend numerous League functions.

“It has been my honor to serve the Frontier League for more than a quarter of a century”, Lee stated. “It is very gratifying to see how the League has grown to 16 teams and has a partnership with Major League Baseball. I will always treasure the many relationships that were formed over the years with League staff, owners, front office members, managers, coaches, umpires, media, broadcasters and other members of our industry. I mostly want to thank all of the players and fans that truly built the League”.

“Bill Lee has done an outstanding job managing and growing the Frontier League”, stated League President John Stanley. “The League owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Bill for his 27 years of service, and it’s safe to say the League would not exist in it’s present form without Bill’s leadership and hard work”.

After graduating from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a degree in Mass Communications, Lee played in the Atlanta Braves organization and the independent Lone Star League. He then worked for the Birmingham Barons as their Assistant General Manager and Public Relations Director before moving on to become the General Manager of the Chattanooga Lookouts.

While with the Lookouts, Lee was the Southern League’s Executive of the Year in 1989. Just before joining the Frontier League, he was the Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for the Seattle Thunderbirds Hockey Club in the Western Hockey League. Lee was chosen as Marketing Executive of the Year of that League in 1991.

The Frontier League will begin a search for a replacement immediately.

The Frontier League is the largest and longest tenured MLB Partner League, with 16 teams stretching from St. Louis to Quebec City, Canada. For more information go to www.frontierleague.com

Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” February 16, 2021

Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” was created because we have a couple of commenters that post on a daily basis either in our “IS IT TRUE” or “Readers Forum” columns concerning local, state, national, or international issues

The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give our more opinionated readers exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and Middle Jab and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss local, state, national, or world issues that they feel passionate about.

We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “MIDDLE JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” 7 days a week.  Oh, “LEFT JAB” is a liberal view, “MIDDLE JAB” is the libertarian view and the “RIGHT JAB is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments in this column is free to do so.

Crouch statement on Secretary of State Connie Lawson

0

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch gave the following statement regarding Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson’s announcement that she will step down:

Secretary Connie Lawson is a perfect example of Hoosiers’ pioneering spirit. I have always felt close to her, as our careers have taken similar paths. She started her path of public service in county government before joining the legislature, where she would become the first woman in Indiana Senate history to become majority floor leader.

Her decades-long passion as an advocate for stronger awareness of health issues earned her countless accolades from her fellow Hoosiers, and she was a leader among her peers, having been inducted as president of the National Association of Secretaries of State in 2017.

Connie made it a goal to leave Indiana in a better place and during her entire public and private life, she has done exactly that.

Congratulations to Connie and her family upon your retirement.”
