Aces add talented guard Gala Camarena for 2021-22

0

Joining the Aces as the sixth signing for next season, Gala Camarena comes to the River City for the 2021-22 campaign.

Camarena joins Australian teammates Elly Morgan and Kodie Myszka, transfer Celine Dupont, prolific scorer Je’Naiya Davis, and local freshman Maycee Lange as signees for the upcoming campaign.

“Gala is exactly the kind of point guard we were looking for,” said Aces head women’s basketball coach Robyn Scherr-Wells. “She is competitive, driven, and knows how to put her teammates in position to be successful on the floor. She is a pass first point guard, but also has the ability to score in transition, shoot the three, and make the defense pay in ball screen action. We are thrilled Gala has chosen UE!”

Camarena comes to Evansville from Tavernes de la Valldigna, Valencia, Spain after a decorated prep career. Playing most recently for CB TerrAlfas in Valencia, Camarena averaged 15 points, while adding five boards and six assists.

“I chose the university of Evansville, because since the beginning the women’s basketball coaches and staff showed me that they wanted me and trusted me as a player,” said Camarena on why she chose UE. “That confidence made me accept the offer quickly. I feel like I will be an important player on the team and in this family. The university facilities are amazing. For me, it’s a dream joining this team.”

Camarena has also appeared for her hometown club, CB Tavernes, and played five seasons for Valencia Basket. Like her new teammate Celine Dupont, Camarena has also played on the international stage, being selected to the Spanish u15 National Team. Camarena was also named to the Valencia community u16 team in 2019.

Eryn Gould named to MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team

0

Gould recognized for third time in her career

For the third time in her illustrious career at the University of Evansville, Eryn Gould has been recognized for her academic efforts by the Missouri Valley Conference with a spot on the Scholar-Athlete First Team.

The Mt. Carmel, Ill. native earned her second nod on the First Team as she was named to the squad in 2020.  Gould was a Second Team honoree in 2019.

A Biology major at UE, Gould stands with a 3.62 GPA.  The feat is even more impressive given her efforts on the field.  As a senior, she set the Purple Aces single season record for batting average and on-base percentage.  Her .418 batting tally eclipsed the previous mark of .408, which was set by Staci Hatz in 1988.  Reaching base 56.6% of the time, she surpassed the prior UE mark by over 50 points.  Brittany Herald was the previous record holder, finishing at .511 in 2007.

Gould was a First Team All-MVC selection for the third time in her career while being recognized as the league’s Player of the Week on March 22.  That week saw her reach base 83.3% of the time in a series victory over Loyola.  On a national scale, Gould’s on-base figure and walk average were both in the top 20 in the NCAA.  Her batting average and slugging were in the top 60 nationally.

people had been shot. The victims were found at the scene and in a car nearby. All four were taken to local

believed to have been fired during this incident has been recovered by police. Police do not believe anyone else

fired a gun during the incident. A bat that police believe was used during the incident was also located at the scene.
