King, Lazor Make Breaststroke Final

TOKYO – Two with Hoosier ties have advanced to finals in the pool after the ninth and 10th sessions of swimming on Wednesday at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

 

Both Annie Lazor and Lilly King will be competing in the women’s 200m Breaststroke final after advancing through the preliminary and semifinal heats.

 

Through five days in the pool, the Hoosiers have collected six total medals (2G, 3S, 1B). As a University, IU athletes have produced 110 total medals – 57 gold, 20 silver, and 33 bronze.

 

WOMEN’S 200M BREASTSTROKE

Annie Lazor used a strong back half of the women’s 200m Breaststroke to earn a spot in her first career Olympic. She finished third in her heat and third overall out of the semfinals with a time of 2:21.94, besting her preliminary time of 2:22.76.

 

Lilly King, already with a bronze medal in the meet, will swim for gold in the event after finishing second in the first semifinal heat and fifth overall with a time of 2:22.27. The final is her third career individual Olympic final and her first in the 200m Breaststroke.

 

MEN’S 200M IM

In his first swim of these Olympics, three-time Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships Vini Lanza finished 25th in the preliminary heats of the men’s 200m IM with a time of 1:58.92.

Lanza and Tomer Frankel will be back in action tomorrow morning in heats of the men’s 100m Butterfly. The action will begin at 6:50 a.m. ET. Both King and Lazor will swim for gold in the women’s 200m Breaststroke at 9:45 p.m. ET.
