USI to host delegation from UAS Osnabrück
During Professional Staff Exchange Week, October 1-5, The University of Southern Indiana will host 15 German colleagues from the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) Osnabrück (Hochschule Osnabrück in German). The delegation will meet Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, visit USI’s interests in New Harmony, Indiana, learn about higher education trends and meet with other USI colleagues in similar professions. McFarland USA runner Thomas Valles headlines Hispanic Heritage Month event
Dream big—that’s the motto of USI’s Hispanic Heritage Month keynote speaker Thomas Valles, a member of the state champion McFarland High School cross country team featured in the 2015 Disney film McFarland USA. Through a conversation moderated by Paola Marizan ’15, Valles will discuss his historic and inspiring running career, the challenges he faced growing up in a small Latino farming town in the 1980s and what it was like to see his life portrayed on the big screen. Annual Flowers on the Lake ceremony to honor victims, raise awareness of domestic violence
The University of Southern Indiana’s Sexual Assault and Gender Violence Prevention Committee will host the seventh-annual Flowers on the Lake ceremony at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 3 in front of the Liberal Arts Center. The ceremony, held in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, is free and open to the public. Read More

USI Theatre begins 2019-20 season with The Revolutionists
University of Southern Indiana Theatre will open its 2019-20 season with the new comedy The Revolutionists, written by Lauren Gunderson. The production runs October 3-6 in the USI Performance Center located in University Center East on USI’s campus. Tickets are $2 for USI students, $10 for USI employees, $4 for non-USI students (student ID required), $10 for seniors (60+), and $12 for adults. 2019 Nonprofit Excellence Symposium
The University of Southern Indiana Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program will host the 2019 Nonprofit Excellence Symposium on Friday, October 4 in University Center on USI’s campus. The Nonprofit Excellence Symposium brings together professionals from local businesses and nonprofits for a half day of workshops, presentations, idea sharing, and networking open to USI students and anyone who works in or is interested in the nonprofit sector. New Harmony Gallery hosts Docey Lewis exhibition Threading My Way
An exhibition of work by Docey Lewis titled Threading My Way that incorporates her very successful commercial design career with her new ventures into the fine arts realm will be held at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art through Friday, October 4. This activity is made possible, in part, with support from the Efroymson Family Fund, the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Read More

USI to exhibit woodwork of John McNaughton, art alumni
The University of Southern Indiana’s McCutchan Art Center and Pace Galleries will host two exhibitions of wooden sculptures and wood-media artwork through October 25, 2019. A free, public reception for the exhibitions will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 25. Still Kicking and Carving: John McNaughton features the work of nationally acclaimed artist and USI professor emeritus of art John McNaughton. The work in this exhibition is made up of meticulously fashioned, wooden sculptures and function objects, both big and small, with subject matter ranging from political commentary to personal struggles. Read More

3 p.m. Friday, October 11

USI to honor achievements, present awards at annual Faculty Convocation
The University of Southern Indiana will hold its annual Faculty Convocation at 3 p.m. Friday, October 11 in Carter Hall located in University Center West on the USI campus. The event is free and open to the public as space is available, and all are invited to attend and honor the USI faculty with their presence. The Convocation, which was first held at USI in 2017, is a formal ceremony to highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of the USI faculty. Proceedings will include a keynote address from Dr. Katie Ehlman, professor of gerontology and the recognition of newly tenured and promoted faculty, emeriti faculty, faculty members who have completed their terminal degrees and those who have reached 25 years of service at the University. Tickets on sale for USI’s Historic New Harmony Atheneum 40th Anniversary celebration gala
The University of Southern Indiana’s Historic New Harmony invites you to help celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the construction of the Atheneum Visitors Center in New Harmony, Indiana from Thursday, October 10 through Saturday, October 12. Tickets are currently on sale for a black and white themed reception, gala dinner, auction and after-party at USI.edu/atheneum40tickets. The dinner will be catered by Kyle Kellogg, chef at the Evansville Country Club. Registration closes Tuesday, October 15; Race is Saturday, November 2

Registration now open for the 18th annual Norwegian Foot March
The 18th annual Norwegian Foot March, an intense mental and physical challenge, will take participants 18.6 miles through the rolling hills of Evansville’s west side. Carrying a 25-pound rucksack, participants will begin and end on the USI campus, working to make it back to the finish line generally in under four and a half hours depending on age and gender. ROTC cadets, soldiers and veterans, as well as civilians, may register individually or as part of a four-member team. Registration can be completed online or by calling USI Outreach and Engagement at 812-464-1989. Early registration is recommended, as the event sells out quickly. ROTC cadets from any school can register for $25 and all other participants can register for $45. Registration will close on October 15 or when the event is full at 500 participants. More Information
