  1. The simple answer, no. I say that knowing a 40 million dollar addition to the jail is needed. My bone of contention is not with the county now, but with the officials who made the dumb decision to build the jail to small at the start. It seems that the decision was narrow minded and it is now costing 40 million to add on. Would have been cheaper to build it right the first time.

    • It is my understanding that the reason the Vanderburgh Co Jail is the size it is is because that was all they could afford at the time without passing a bond to pay for it…they simply placed the cost in the annual budget.

    • Commissioners wanted to build larger jail with plan to pay for it. County council said no. Cost would have been $45 mill total. Council said they would only approve $35 mill. Now will cost $40 mill to expand. Brilliant thinking Council

    • Ask Jim Raben its was he that refused to spend a penny more than $35 million when it was built.

    • Previous commissioners had plan for larger jail and a plan to pay for it. Wanted$45 million, council said no, $35million would have to do. Now lets spend $40 million to expand. Sorry folks but this land right on the county councils lap because of their shortsighted thinking.

  2. Have not seen this gem reported locally. Kudos to Mike Braun. Donnelly desperately trying to distance himself from the leftist nutbags that have become the face of Democrat party:
    ……………………………….
“Republican businessman and U.S. Senate nominee in Indiana Mike Braun has forced the hand of his red state Democratic opponent Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) in the first major defection of the Senate Democratic Conference in the confirmation battle over Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.”

    • What a bunch of huey. Britbart really. Donnelly is a moderate. He knows that to the Potus goes the spoils. He knows too this takes yet another Braun issue, doesnt it? Oh, Joe is pro life as well. Amything else Joe Biden?

      • JoeBiden is not a conservative nor a Republican nor a Christian.
He is angry, that’s clear. Angry old man.
And he likes Trump because Trump attacks people Joe doesn’t like. Like people that don’t look like Joe, maybe speak a 2nd language and people who went to college.
THAT is what this is about. (These people in America, they’re dying out, btw.)

It AIN’T about ANYTHING else with Joe. Not conservatism, republican party, social values…nothing. He likes the Nazis who marched in Charlottesville for God’s sake! That says everything.

He writes pablum here everyday. It’s all anger. He’s not conservative, one iota.

        • People like Joe are not dying out. A lot of the young ones today, the dual income ones are moving out of the cities and into gated communities. They are working to insulate themselves from liberals, their new motto is move to Newburgh and be somebody. We are getting ready to add to the new jail which will take it up to about 1100 inmates, they will mostly be the spawn of liberal democrats, the ones that didn’t get murdered before birth. If there were no democrat in Vanderburgh County we could still use the old jail built in 1890 and housed about 30 inmates. It worked until about 1970 when the full impact of the new society was felt. Simple observation proves most criminals are democrats. I wonder if democrats ever wonder, What is wrong with us?

          • Please everyone. Let Newspeak’s post just stand.
It validates every point KM was making.
News is bleeding out of his backside anyway. Let it stand.

  3. Does anyone know if it is legal for the City to disconnect sewer access from the McCurdy?

    • Yep. Read the C&P, the city just filed a lawsuit today although it’s less than the original claim.

    • Just saw this on the C&P website:
      ………………………………
“Lawsuit: Utility wants McCurdy owner to pay disputed sewer bills
Mark Wilson Evansville Courier & Press
      Published 9:10 p.m. UTC Jul 25, 2018
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Evansville Water & Sewer Utility has filed a lawsuit to get the owner of the McCurdy building development to pay disputed sewer bills.

The complaint was filed in Vanderburgh Circuit Court on Wednesday. It asked the court to foreclose on three liens filed against the McCurdy in March, May and June this year for unpaid sewer bills totaling $861,938.

The lawsuit also asked the court to order the building at 100 SE Riverside Drive sold and the profits used to pay the liens if the bills can’t otherwise be paid.”
