With primary voting set to close May 6th, congressional candidate Andrew McNeil is making his case to be the representative of Indiana’s 8th congressional district at candidate forums across the district.

“Forums are possibly the best opportunity for the voters in an election” McNeil noted. “Forums give every candidate the ability to prove why they deserve the trust of their district and allow the voters to make their voices heard on the issues that matter most to them. It’s an opportunity that can’t be ignored.”

McNeil has already appeared at forums in Warrick, Owen, Clay and Vigo Counties and plans to speak at the upcoming forum in Sullivan County on April 15th. McNeil planned to attend a further debate in Greene County that has now been canceled after Bucshon declined to attend.

Congressman Bucshon has yet to accept one invitation to speak at a candidate forum McNeil has attended and so far has rejected requests from the McNeil campaign to set up a debate. Bucshon’s campaign argues that he is currently too tied up with work in Washington. However Congressmen have been given April 11th through April 27th off, presumably to campaign in their districts. Instead of spending these two weeks in his district, Bucshon will tour Indiana delivering lectures on healthcare law in Indiana. On April 22nd TV program Tri-State Voices in Evansville invited Bucshon and McNeil to speak on-air. Bucshon has already turned down the invitation, but Tri-State Voices still intends to bring McNeil on to present his platform.

McNeil has found that most voters are not surprised by Bucshon’s absence from the forums, and personally hopes that he will give voters the time and attention they deserve before the May 6 primary. “There is still plenty of time to set up a forum or debate that both Larry and I can attend. I’m eager for the chance to compare our positions side-by-side and let the voters decide which of us will serve them best. I am willing to extend another official invitation to Congressman Bucshon to set up a debate together. I understand that Congress is a busy place so I will let Larry pick the time that is most convenient for him. Congressional elections are too important for voters to not have a chance to interview their candidates.”

  1. I think I see why Bucshon is running from Mr. McNeil. They look a little alike. Bucshon: ‘Luke…’.

  2. Andrew Horning has also sent out many requests to debate congressman Bucshon and has not even received a response. He also invited the other candidates Tom Spangler and Andrew McNeil to debate with or without Bucshon there. Spangler agreed to that, but McNeil said he would not have a debate unless Bucshon was there.

  3. Bucshon has zero to gain in a debate setting prior to the primary. While I like Andrew Horning and will probably vote for him in the general, calls for debates at this time are calls of desperation.

    • I don’t understand what you mean, “calls for debates at this time are calls of desperation.”
You’d never hire a janitor without a job interview.
I’d think that from a voter’s perspective you’d welcome any chance at all to interrogate those of us who’d dare represent you in DC.
From my perspective, I’d be going to Washington with a toilet plunger with a nasty job to do.
I’d think voters should be the ones more desperate to get that job done…and hire a guy to do it.
But maybe I’m missing what you’re getting at?

  4. FYI….the candidate Andrew Horning appears to be the kind of individual who would disband the US Military calling the US Army/Navy/Air Force & Marines “the age’s global superpower.” At the very least, he has no respect for our US Soldiers giving their lives and their limbs on behalf of their country.

You disagree? Look at this…and judge for yourself. These are Congressional Candidate Andrew Horning’s OWN WORDS:

“I do not “thank a soldier” for my freedoms. Our freedoms were won by citizen soldiers fighting the professional standing armies of that age’s global superpower. Think about it. Who ever takes away liberty but the professional armed forces/police of the political elites? Let us stop fooling ourselves about the nature of armed forces. They do what they’re told to do. We’ve been very lucky, so far, that they’ve not been told to do what is historically typical, and seen around the world still today.”

  5. Neither McNeil or Horning will knock Bucshon off the ticket. I think Kristi is the Teabagger’s best shot but she’s been strangely silent lately, probably furthering her education.

The doctor learned quickly: stay out of sight, don’t say much, have protesters removed from your presence, send an occasional ghost written commentary to a dying newspaper, vote as Cantor orders and…get relected.

  6. It’s called the “BLOODY 8TH” for a reason. Bucshon needs to work the district in the primary to stay in office. His message is not getting traction with Republican voters. It is a very high maintainance district.
