Just IN: Hoosiers For Rokita Statement On Braun & Messer Candidate Filings

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Today, the Hoosiers for Rokita campaign released this statement ahead of Mike Braun and Luke Messer filing for the US Senate primary ballot at the State House:

“We’d like to welcome Mike Braun to the Republican Party and Luke Messer back to the state he claims to still live in,” said Hoosiers for Rokita spokesperson Nathan Brand. “Luke Messer is Evan Bayh, but without the well-known name.  His decision to sell his Indiana home and move in with the DC elite will continue to haunt his Senate campaign.  And with a history of voting for Democrats for two decades, and record of raising 45 taxes and fees, including the largest in state history, Tax Hike Mike Braun will spend the next three months attempting to disguise a record that is more in line with Washington liberals than Hoosier conservatives.”

BACKGROUND

Associated Press: Indiana GOP Senate candidate Mike Braun voted Democrat until 2012
“A wealthy Indiana Senate candidate who bills himself in television ads as a conservative Republican voted for more than a decade as a Democrat in the state’s primary elections, according to public documents obtained by the Associated Press… He began voting as a Democrat in at least 1996, according to county records that date back only 25 years. That continued through the 2008 primary, where Hillary Clinton narrowly defeated Barack Obama following a heated campaign…” (Associated Press, 12/6/17)

Associated Press: Luke Messer’s D.C.-area home is complicating his Senate campaign
“A campaign stop for Rep. Luke Messer in his bid for Senate involves traveling from his family’s home in suburban Washington, D.C., back to Indiana, where aides say he typically stays overnight with his mom…
Then there’s Messer. His family lives in McLean, Va., keeps a vacation house in Dandridge, Tenn., yet sold their home in Indiana two years after his election to Congress in 2012.”
