IS IT TRUE SEPTEMBER 7, 2015

IS IT TRUE EVSC Administration and our elected School Board members are supposed to be the body responsible for the education of our youth, but we wonder where is the sense of honor and integrity?

IS IT TRUE we feel what the EVSC School Board is attempting to do in their recent negotiations with the Teamsters Local 215 is union busting, plain and simple?

IS IT TRUE It seems the dynamics have changed between the School Board and the Teamsters because the two groups that used to be political allies?  …by allowing EVSC non-educational staff the ability to opt out of paying representation dues to the Teamsters, the School Board has set a dangerous precedent?

IS IT TRUE If more and more EVSC custodians, maintenance worker, secretaries and bus drivers decide to opt out of paying dues to the Teamsters, eventually those employees will have little or no collective bargaining power or job security?

IS IT TRUE another issue at stake concerns the discipline process of EVSC employees?  …If appearing before the School Board becomes the final stage of discipline, eliminating the current third-party mediator, there will be less objective oversight when it comes to issues of discipline and termination?

IS IT TRUE by attempting to decrease the power of the Local Teamsters 215 workers, the School Board has put the system in turmoil?  …the morale is poor for nearly 700 members EVSC staff? …we can only hope that the School Board’s decisions do not have a negative impact on our students?

IS IT TRUE you, as the electorate should take responsibility and have your voice heard?  …let the School Board know that by breaking apart the Local Teamsters’ 215 collective bargaining power and limiting oversight over discipline issues, they are hurting our students chances for success in the future?

IS IT TRUE would like to see members of the Local Teamsters 215 attend this “Good Ole Fashion” political gathering at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum that encourages our elected officials to begin practice ‘Good Public Policy“?

IS IT TRUE Commander Mark Acker of the Veteran’s Council of Vanderburgh County announced last week  that the Council will host a “Call to Assemble” on September 23, 2015 beginning at 5:00 PM, at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum?

IS IT TRUE the “Call to Assemble” will be a non-partisan gathering of area political candidates and the general public to encourage “Good Public Policy” decisions by our elected official? … the “CALL TO ASSEMBLE” will be a peaceful, positive and hopeful event that is planned to encourage honest, open governance, with transparency and will bring better accountability to our beloved City?

IS IT TRUE are you aware when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny?  …when the Government fear the people we have Liberty?  … could this be a good reason for a “Call To Assemble”?

  1. Since joining my first union in 1966, I have never agreed with membership being a requisite for employment. But, I have always believed in paying the “fair share” for union non-member representation required by law and the benefits derived from that representation.
I almost have to believe the EVSC board is trying to union bust, especially by demanding to do away with third party arbitration.

    • Mr. George Lumley Esq.,–You have a practical perspective of the Quality of the “Cloth” that Evansville’s Elitists put forth with their “selected” Politicos,– chosen by the FEW,– to be backed with the Party endorsement/ Money and Organization, for the Voters to consider,–from the Primaries to the General elections.
Evansville’s Political History also suggests,—“to achieve Good, Honest, Open Governance, with Transparency, and Better Accounting, in our City/County government,—- will take no less than a “Miracle.”
You can’t make a Silk Purse out of a Sow’s Ear.

  2. I hope you have invited by special invitation some “miracle workers” to this event because it looks to me that to achieve good, honest, open governance with transparency and better accounting in our City/County government will take no less than a miracle.

    • The first step in correcting the problem would be for Evansville to acquire an actual “newspaper”. Below is an explanation of the problem, but it is even worse in Evansville, where you have the Publisher of the offending newspaper paying $10,000. annually in order to rub elbows with the “rich and powerful”.

Explaining newspaper content: Nick Davies’s churnalism vs. Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky’s Propaganda Model

In 2008 investigative journalist Nick Davies published Flat earth news: An award-winning reporter exposes falsehood, distortion and propaganda in the global media.

Its central argument is Davies’s concept of ‘churnalism’, whereby the increasingly concentrated
corporate ownership of the national and regional press has led to profit maximisation at all costs.

With newspapers cutting costs by cutting staff, the journalists who remain at the paper are expected to do more work in less time. This has created a more pressurized working environment with less time for fact-checking and for getting out of the office to pursue a story and build up contacts. Unable to leave their desks, the stressed-out reporters are prey for PR firms, regurgitating press releases and wire copy with minimal, if any, editing.

According to Davies (2008: 13), these commercial pressures have ideological consequences with
journalists tending ‘to produce a consensus account of the world which repeatedly reflects the interests of the rich and powerful’

  3. Is it true the “Call to Assemble” will be non-partisan in the same manner the CCO is non-partisan?

The last time I checked the people represented by this union:

    https://ista-in.org/who-we-are

are not required/mandated to be a member of that union.

  5. From what I have read and seen the Teamsters have given the Evsc very workable language on the two issues that the Evsc does not need to have to be effective. But what Dr Smith and Mr. Kiefer need for their Power Trip. I do not believe the entire Evsc Board agrees with these two but for some reason the Board Members have not shown the guts to stand up and say that this is B/S and this behavior is done. We will now work with Local 215 and the Boards Lawyer Mr. Shoulders and get a workable Agreement for both sides. We are who Voters of Evansville and Vanderburgh Co. elected to do this job. The Union Employees of the Evsc would be absolutely nuts to agree to let the Evsc be the Final word on discipline when they are the ones disciplining that is Ludicrous. Why is it that paying someone for services is acceptable always except when dealing with the fair share clause when you don’t want to belong to Union but you want what they negotiate for you and for them to represent you when needed. It’s is called a free ride and that also is ludicrous. Try this at the Grocery Store or with Vectern or a Lawyer or with Anyone who gives you a service that is paid for giving it. Now it is time for the Evsc to get an Agreement. Please don’t force these Very Good Employees to take Drastic Measures!!

  6. I am ashamed of the evsc administration. I don’t know how David smith can look himself in the mirror. The school board is even worse. These are elected officials who are not listening to the voters. One school board member ran on the fact that he didn’t like the way negotiations were and he is no where to be found. He isn’t answering emails or phone calls. This is awful. They are not bargaining in good faith. They can’t possibly believe that anyone with half a brain would agree that they be the final arbitrator.

  7. IS IT TRUE it was recently reported that there is not one single coal miner working in the state of Kentucky who is represented by the UMWA?…I just wanted to point that out on Labor Day?
