IS IT TRUE JUNE 25, 2015

IS IT TRUE today at 11:00 a local businessman Rob Myers will be announcing that he shall be running for an At-Large City Council seat on the Evansville City Council?  …he shall be running on the Libertarian ticket?  …next week other Libertarians will be announcing that they will be running at least one or maybe two more candidates for City Council?  …don’t be surprised that one of the seats they may field a candidate in is located  in the 2nd Ward?

IS IT TRUE the picture provided by the Mayor on the Downtown Hotel project shows what is commonly referred to as a vertical PTAC unit? …“PTAC, stands for “Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner”? …this is a window like unit that actually sits in an enclosed area by the window in the corner and vented through a grill next to the window on the outside? …the outside grills are evident in the pictures provided and on display at the construction site?   …that these unit are extremely noisy?  …the unit functions as an air conditioner and furnace combination, generally electrically operated like a window air conditioner? …you will see these units commonly in upscale road side motels like a Days Inn and Suites?  … you’ll never see these units in a Downtown Convention Hotel?

IS IT TRUE we would like to inform the Mayor’s Chief of Staff that the above IS IT TRUE question was styled by the CCO? …we look forward to the Mayor’s Chief of Staff to state at the next City Council meeting that new Downtown Hotel will not have “Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners”?

IS IT TRUE many Democrats feel that Gail Riecken should request that Rob Faulkner resign as the Chairman of the Vanderburgh Democratic party because he plays both sides of the political fence? …It’s a well known secret that Mr. Faulkner is totally controlled by the local Unions who are working to get Winnecke re-elected?

IS IT TRUE State Planners for the Regional Medical School campus are coming to Evansville to  formally announce the ground breaking date on the school this fall? …we wonder how this project will affect the proposed Downtown Hotel if both projects are built around the same time frame?

IS IT TRUE Evansville’s water and sewer utility workers are beginning to check and clean more than 600 miles of sewer lines in the city over the next two years? …this project is part of a mandate from the Federal Government? …the Water and Sewer Utility Department has to clean 660 sewer lines by 2017? …70 percent by these lines must be checked by November 2015, we wonder if the Mayor has decided to contract this project out? …If so, we wonder if the Mayor decided to hire local Union workers to do this project?

  1. Why argue over what kind of motel should be built when the city has no business building one? What’s the goal? To build an even more expensive motel?

  2. If it true that each room will have those sort of HVAC units, Mr. Jack McNeely should be extremely disappointed . . .Why? . . .the sheet metal workers will have far less work on this project. . . .appears they have been short changed by their Mayor a/k/a Santa Lloyd . .

  3. The PTAC units suggest a low occupancy expectation,- it would follow that the expense of Heating and Air conditioning a 240 room Motel as a unit,- would cost significantly more than say forty occupied rooms per night by themselves.
Low occupancy is the Number One drag on profitability from the get go,-the realistic numbers crunch by those we might expect to be in the “Know”, speaks volumes concerning the PTAC units selection and ROI.
You can bet your patoote this glorified Motel is going to be another Old Downtown Loser.

    • Do doubt about it Crash. To beat a dead horse, if this was a good business bet, there would be businesses racing to build a hotel downtown. Notice no such racing is happening. Building this hotel has become LW’s Ford Center. Everyone has to have their legacy no matter how sad or displaced.

    • Those PTAC units nearly double the cost of energy . . . and we thought we had Green on our mind . . . the only Green Santa Lloyd has on his mind, apparently, old Ben’s picture rest thereon . . .

  4. In regards to the sewer clean outs hope old LW has enough cash on hand for the OT . . .he must as evident by his advancing $2.5 Million to the City on Dec 29, 2014 in order to balance his General Fund . . .

  5. The mainstream announcement on the fall IU satellite locations has some stark similarities to those terminologies used in all the phantom convention motel ground breakings. Déjà vu?

    dé·jà vu
    ˌdāZHä ˈvo͞o/
    noun
r/. 1 a feeling of having already experienced the present situation.
    tedious familiarity.
“to list the opponents of his policies is to invite boredom and a sense of déjà

    (satellite)
    noun
r/.1 a follower or attendant attached to a prince or other person of importance
any obsequious or fawning follower or dependent
r/.2 a celestial body that revolves around a larger celestial body
r/. 3a man-made object rocketed into orbit around the earth, the moon, etc.; specif., such an object containing electronic devices for originating or relaying communications, data, etc.
r/.4 something subordinate or dependent; specif., a small state that is economically or politically dependent on, and hence adjusts its policies to, a larger, more powerful state

    • One of our contacts there in your town seems to think that little short clown bus ought to have had been parked between the notell site and the medical learning condo style building sites.
That bouncing lil’ bugger could be parked between the ground breaking sites of the phantom convention motel and the condo styled IU medical studies center. That’ll save allot of bouncing and gyrating about for the clowns, as well as, wear and tear on the clowns short bus. The clowns could just walk back and forth through the thing in the front and out the back for coverage of both locations ground breaking activities. What a show! 😉

  6. Coming from a business traveler who also has probably worked as many or more conventions/trade shows than the majority of persons posting here, I will add my .02…

The business traveler such as myself finds it way more important the beds, bedding (high thread count) and pillows be comfy than what type of climate control system is in the room. Other creature comforts like a nice TV, well working and free wifi, coffee maker, microwave, fridge in the room along with a nice desk and comfortable chair for working after the show and making notes is also high on the list. Soft towels and a well vented bathroom are also a high priority.

Furthermore, the wall/window units may make a bit more noise but I prefer that option to the system at the downtown Indy Embassy Suites that is switched from cooling to heat in the Fall, sometimes making a December stay there very uncomfortable. You have to prop the window open to get the room cool so if you want to talk noise – try downtown Indy on a Friday or Saturday night not to mention the garbage and delivery trucks the next morning.

My final point is that a convention hotel is not a tourist/vacation destination, its a place to relax a bit, work a bit and sleep a bit. Most convention attendees spend the evenings dining, networking, entertaining and sometimes just blowing off a little steam. I doubt the downtown eating/entertainment establishments (if we ever can attract and keep them) want people holed up in a hotel room anyway and would rather have them out spending money.

    • I’m sorry to inform you that you are not the only person in here that’s attended out of town conventions. I’ve been to quite a few of them myself from New Orleans to Washington D.C to Chicago and a few other places like Texas A&M and Birmingham, AL and even to New York Upstate. I want a nice comfortable room with clean sheets and a nice pillow. I’d rather not stay in an old high rise but in a Hyatt Regency Hotel. The one in Washington D.C. was nice. You don’t have a monopoly on opinions as a business traveler. Yours is one opinion just like the rest of us.

I’d rather have a travel budget that included renting a vehicle and stay anywhere I wanted in the city that the convention is being held than to have to stay at a hotel right next to the convention center. As long as there is adequate parking I’d be OK.

      • Move you don’t have to be sorry to inform me of anything. I was careful in my post to clarify that i wasn’t claiming to have traveled more than everyone, just probably more than most. I wasn’t trying to pick a fight with you or anyone else regarding this matter, just stating my opinion. We actually agree on the comfy bed and pillows but I don’t get your apparent angst for me my stating my opinion. I don’t necessarily agree with your stance on staying further away from the convention center but respect your preference anyway. I rarely post on this or any other site just because of those posters whom are quick to jump on people and try to turn the comments ugly. I attempt to always be respectful in discussions (even online) as you never know who might take exception with the tone and really put one in his/her place. If I wouldn’t have the balls to say it you your face, I won’t type it….

  7. Actually I prefer the PTAC or thru-wall unit HVAC equipment. I can turn the fan on and use it as “white noIse” to obliterate the exterior sounds that are prevalent in these hotel/motel environments.

    • Those things often remind me of a classic Nat King Cole tune same notes different lyrics. “Rumbling Rose”……………. And if one sits outside at that projected motel pool in downtown Evansville’s failed combined sewers stench its likely going to be an unforgettable experience altogether. Whew what a mess.

      • Yep, “Rumbling rooms” that’s the score….come to Evansville’s downtown pop-up convention motel and slumber to the call “and tune” of the “rumbling rooms”………………..Thanks Nat! They now have a score for their cheapo downtown convention motel……………

  8. Rumblin’ rose, rumblin’ rose
Why you rumble, no one knows
Short and graft-baked, now you’ve pancaked
Who can sleep in a rumblin’ rose

    Rumble on, rumble wrong
When your rumblin’ days are gone
Who will stay there, who could possibly care
When your rumblin’ days are none

    Rumblin’ rose, rumblin’ rose
Why we built you, Huffman knows
    Took our money, streets unpaved
Down you go when the sewer caves

    Rumblin’ rose, rumblin’ rose
    Built on lies, heaven knows
Up you went a crooked erection
We’ll fix the problem at the next election

    Rumblin’ rose, rumblin’ rose
When we implode you there you goes
Should have sited you, time will tell
By your sister the Arrowhead Motel.

  9. The Mayor specifically promised a first class hotel….sounds like this won’t be it. The Mayor will have to answer to the voters for anything less. And, no, the Mayor will be hard pressed to blame this on the council. He knows how much money is available and did. If he didn’t, he should’ve of.
