“IS IT TRUE” JANUARY 20, 2020

4
We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
IS IT TRUE that the rumors swirling around the City of Evansville about the alleged actions and consequences associated with the suspension of University of Evansville basketball coach Walter McCarty are getting out of hand?…while very few of us know the entirety of why Coach McCarty is relegated to watching the Aces play from afar, the consequences to the team are obviously showing up on the court?
IS IT TRUE that the Purple Aces started out the year on a high that the program has not seen for many decades with an amazing win over the blueblood Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena, but since McCarty was benched the team has lost 6 games in a row that most of the games may have been won with the talented coach on the bench?…the Kentucky win has been called the victory of the century of UE and by all metrics it really is?…this team’s players are talented and before the dust-up over Coach McCarty suspension was probably headed for a 25 win season with a very real probability of winning the Missouri Valley Conference and its automatic berth in March Madness?
IS IT TRUE it has been 20 years since the Aces have been to the big dance and this year’s opportunity will come down to the tournament if at all?…we hope that this spectacle on Lincoln Avenue will come to an end real soon? …this spectacle is embarrassing, humiliating, and debilitating for a program that seemed to be on the rise after 20 years of boredom?
IS IT TRUE that the City of Evansville continued to experience a crime spree and some just plain strange? …at a recent a high school basketball game between Bosse and Central some fans got so worked up that they started fighting?…the game had to be stopped for a while to calm down the fighting in the crowd?…this type of thing comes under the heading of letting the lowest common denominator negatively impact a game that is about the players and their families as opposed to some morons in the stands?…all we can say is the words “keep it classy Evansville” was not adhered to at that ballgame?
IS IT TRUE we give five (5) cheers to local attorney Charles Berger for having the passion to force the EVSC to become accountable and practice “Good Public Policy”?  …because of Mr. Burger’s recent “Public Access For Public Records” request, the EVSC backroom closed doors decisions will soon become public?  …we hope and pray that one day soon another Charles Berger type will come forward and demand that the Evansville DMD, VenueWorks and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission make all the financial transactions pertaining to the funding of the Evansville Thunderbolts from day one public?
IS IT TRUE County Commissioner Ben Shoulders recently filed his finance report?  …the report shows that he has over $125,000 cash on hand at the end of 2019?  … that Commissioner Shoulders has a token Republican general election opponent? …the candidate is non-other than Rev. William “Billy” Garrett, who has run for numerous political offices in the past and lost all of them by overwhelming margins?

IS IT TRUE County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave filed her finance report recently reflecting over $103,000 cash on hand at the end of 2019?  …. that Commissioner Musgrave has a token Republican primary opponent who has already started running a negative campaign against her?

IS IT TRUE  we have been told by several people that they really miss former State Representative Gail Riecken because she was a down to earth and constituent friendly person who had a passion to help the disadvantaged?
IS IT TRUE we are told that several past and current local elected officials have missed filing their “Campaign Finance Reports” due On January 15, 2020? …those who are delinquent are: Connie Robinson, James Raben, Sherriff Dave Wedding, Dan McGinn, Terry Gamblin, and Karen Ragland?
IS IT TRUE Mayor Lloyd Winnecke held his inauguration party at the Downtown DoubleTree Hotel last weekend? …around 250 people attended this political gala?  …Mayor Winnecke has raised over $1.3 Million dollars last year and plans to host three (3) political fundraising events each year during the remainder of his third term?
IS IT TRUE we are told that Mayor Winnecke is not ruling out running for the fourth (4th) term?  …this type of projection reminds us of the former narcissistic Mayor of Chicago Jane Byrne when she ran for re-election?  … when she ran for re-election Chicago had out of control water and sewer rates, high taxes, increased crime rates, high unemployment, labor unrest, featuring strikes by firefighters and public school teachers and transit workers?
IS IT TRUE we been told that the former 8th District Republican Chairman Rick Martin has decided to run for the State Representative House District #75 seat that is currently held by Ron Bacon of Chandler? …that Mr. Bacon recently announced that he shall not seek re-election? …if attorney Rick Martin decides to run for the soon to be vacant State Representative House District #75 seat currently held by Ron Bacon we predict that he shall be the odds on favorite to win the nomination in the Republican primary?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty
Today’s “Readers Poll” question is: How do you rate the overall performance of State Representative Ron Bacon?

  1.  “…before the dust-up over Coach McCarty suspension was probably headed for a 25 win season with a very real probability of winning the Missouri Valley Conference and its automatic birth in March Madness?”

    Are you on drugs?

No. Are you? This statement could “TRUE” or “NOT TRUE.”

Have a great day and thanks for reading the City-County Observer.

      • I’m a UE grad. And I support the Aces. But to be honest, there was no way the Aces were going to win the conference or the tournament, with or without the coach.

  2. Is Evansville experiencing a crime spree? Anytime a lot of democrats are massed in a specific area you will have a crime spree. This is predictable and any police dept that does good trend data will bare this out. I predicted the KFC on Covert and 41 would soon close, why because democrats congregated there. The same with Hardees on Weinbach. The democrats want to add 700 bed spaces to the jail, I say go for 1500 for a total of 2000 spaces. This is easy to figure out, we have about 800 in jail now, about 200 in other jails and at least 500-600 that need to be in jail but there’s no space them. With a stealth democrat mayor and some nominal republicans in office the future of Evansville is predictable for an increase in crime and homelessness. Why can’t we get a grocery store on Main St? Too many democrats in that area.
