IS IT TRUE FEBRUARY 12, 2016

IS IT TRUE  if the City of Evansville’s books and records are so clean according to the Mayor and his City Controller why does it take one year and two months for the people to really know the findings of the State Board of Accounts audit of the City of Evansville?

IS IT TRUE last week Federal IRS agents were at the Civic Center for a couple of days looking at 1099 and W-9 tax forms? …our Civic Center “Moles” tell us that the Federal IRS agents are looking at these forms in an extremely organized manner?  …the Federal IRS agents visit was unscheduled?  …. that IRS Form W-9 (Rev. December 2014) Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification?

IS IT TRUE we heard that an official from the Winnecke administration asked some of his State and Federal political buddies to find out why the Special Agents of the Division of the Office of the Special Inspector General For The Troubled Asset Relief Program are doing an investigations of the spending of TARP Funds in Evansville?

IS IT TRUE we are hearing that officials from the Division of the Office of the Special Inspector General For The Troubled Asset Relief Program are planning to revisit Evansville at the end of this month?

IS IT TRUE that the past Evansville DMD Director  bragged that he was well-connected with City and State officials in Indianapolis? …we wonder if he knows Reggie Walton, the DMD  official who is sentenced to nine years in prison for his alleged  felonious acts as Director of the Capitol City’s Land Bank?

IS IT TRUE investigators of the not-for-profit Evansville Brownfields  Corp will be meeting again with present and former city officials near the end of this month? .. .we understand from a very good source that most of the current officials are using the services of a city paid attorney to protect their interests?  …we have heard that John Friend, Al Lindsey, Dr. Dan Adams and Connie Robinson have not engaged in hiring  legal counsel,?  … they must feel fine about answering questions from investigators without assistance from city paid legal counsel because they have nothing to hide?

IS IT TRUE that we have been impressed with the changes we have seen in the Evansville Courier and Press under it’s newest ownership?  … the  new Courier and Press  are reporting news that is less than flattering to the Winnecke administration and City Council ?

IS IT TRUE we would like to see Brad Byrd do the same kind of interview with Jonathon Weaver that he did with Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley and John Friend CPA when they faced allegations of improper behavior?…We believe that the allegations made by the Courier and Press Editor Tim Elhridge concerning Weaver are as serious as the ones they faced,?  …Missy Mosby stated at last Monday night City Council meeting that that Mr. Elthridge comments about Mr. Weaver were slanderous?  … by Mr. Weaver appearing on the Bryd Byrd show he will  be able to defend the allegations leveled against him by the Courier and Press Editor are incorrect?

IS IT TRUE the way  to  be able to speak at City Council meetings is to ask the City Clerk  to put you down as an “agenda item” ? …if someone is officially on the agenda, there are no restrictions on how much time may be utilized to address the Council, Commission, or Board?   …the Chair of the meeting can decide and govern the speaking time, but in reality there are no legal restrictions on someone addressing the Council, Commission, or Board?

IS IT TRUE  the City Council unanimously agreed that Evansville Brownfields would hold the lease on the downtown hotel?…We wonder about the wisdom of this decision, and wonder why using the non-profit as a “pass through” will serve the cause of transparency?

IS IT TRUE that CCO is doing in-depth research on some questions raised by our posters over the last few days, and will be publishing our findings in the coming days?… That some of these questions are leading us down potentially enlightening paths concerning some new public officials and their questionable connections and claims?

IS IT TRUE  we are asking our readers to “like page and share”  on Facebook and encourage friends and family to do so, as well?

Todays “Readers Poll” question is: DO YOU FEEL THAT GEORGE LUMLEY REQUESTS FOR PAST BROWNFIELD CORP. AUDITS SHOULD HAD BEEN DENIED?

  1. It must be bad, Hizzoner re-upped the specter of making his beloved dog park a reality yesterday. Said the people want it. Said the people want ‘quality green space’. The timing is convenient to serve as a distraction from the federal scrutiny his people are currently under.

For a litigious mayor, and he certainly is one, he should feel right at home now. Trouble is, we get to fund his courtroom adventures and appeals.

    • I wish Winnie would shove the dog park. A lot of people can’t afford a dog and they don’t have a car to load it into and drive it to the dog park. He needs to go look around town.

    • The City may not have enough money to get it settled out of court, with all of the legal expenses being incurred in the DMD/Brownfields panic.

  2. Does anybody know who the legal counsel for the nervous people is? We ought to know, since we are paying for it!

  3. I don’t have a comment for today’s topic. But I noticed the daily off topic comment section has not been updated since January 13th.
First off a tip of the hat to Bernie Sanders age 74,Hillary Clinton age 68, Donald Trump age 69. They are going at it every day for approximately 16 or more hours each day. That’s very impressive.

I have listen to my friends who are President Obama’s fans. They are telling me that we (USA) are better now than any other time in American History. Then I listen to both the Republican and Democrat debates. GLOOM AND DOOM from each debate.

All candidates quote statistics about crime, the economy, terrorism, jobs, and poverty. But do not say where they get their stats. So which is it?. Are we living in the best of times? Or the worst of times?

    • Pogo,
I don’t have any friends but people I encounter tell me it is a personal choice. That is what is great about the USU both conditions actually exist at the same time. Everyone has a choice and the ones at the bottom are choosing to be there. Everyday people can get up and choose if they live in the best of times or the worst and find statistics to support the fact. Always pick the conclusion firs and then find the facts to support it.

    • Cultural Marxism has all but won the day. The country has had a steady diet of it since World War II. There is only one candidate out there who went into the lions den and told them that he understood why they would not vote for him, “it is because I will not take your money.” Every other candidate, regardless of Party, takes their money and high paying, do nothing, jobs for themselves and their family members.

Here is what Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton do not want you to know about the people at the top of communist and socialist governments:

  4. My guess is that we live in neither the best nor worst, but I think Bernie could make them much better!

    • The greatest threat we face is our debt. Bernie’s third world sum total approach to economist will increase our debt. An 8% increase in individual taxes and higher taxes on corporation does not build the middle class and will send corporations fleeing.

  5. It depends on whether you believe that ethical behavior is merely a “courtesy”, or if ethical behavior resides on a higher plain. I subscribe to the latter. Censorship is anathema to a free society and representative government.

  6. What’s going on with the roads around here this winter? School is out again because we can’t handle a half inch of snow?! Last night’s news showed Owensboro pretreating their roads. What were we doing? Potholes left open for weeks and months and getting bigger. Is anyone in charge checking to see if work is getting done? Are we out of money and nobody wants to admit it? Does anybody in charge even care?

  7. VERY pleased to see the leadership the City County Observer is showing in its journalistic investigation of the Evansville Brownfields Corp, and its pursuit of Officials and their representatives to demand full transparency of the EBC’s activities.

Thank you CCO….Great job – public service at work.

  8. Maybe the reason why the Winnecke Administration decided to postpone presenting it’s financial statements under the GAAP standards until 2019 is the requirements that pass thru non-profit entities are required to be pulled into the governmental auditing standards. Under that standard both the Evansville Redevelopment Authority and Brownfields would be subject to those audit standards.

    • Btw Meter maybe postponing the movement to GAAP accounting standards old Russ would be hand tied in his accounting manipulations. So without those GAAP standards in place and under the leadership of the council the public will NEVER know the critical financial position of this City until one day when the money is gone. Remember when Chris Christy said to those public employees when confronted concerning the whereabouts of their pension money and he said, “you need to go ask the former administration, I don’t have it” well this will be an Evansville future quote.

  9. The people have spoken clearly and want an audit by the state inspector general of the Brownfield Land Bank.

    • Without the City expanding it’s ordinance to include Brownfields Corporation as part of its ordinance requiring non-profit who receive contributions from the City be audited (the ordinance is charitable contribution exceeding 15k) and until Winnecke’s puppet a/k/a Russ Lloyd, Jr Controller places our City on the same accounting standards as that of Indy, Ft. Wayne, & South Bend, the State Board of Accounting does not have authority to Audit EBC.

Of Course, we have the US Special Inspector General of the Treasury which has subpoena power. The Indiana Attorney General does not have the authority to compel even if wrongdoing is discovered. That my friend would have to be instituted by the Vanderburgh Prosecutor. Don’t hold your breath on that one
