IS IT TRUE DECEMBER 28 and 29, 2015

21

IS IT TRUE the Haynes Corner Montrose/ Maybelle apartments and a commercial corner lot were purchased by the DMD/Brownfields in 2012 for $350,000 with CDBG monies?  ….that we wonder who paid to demolish the commercial storage building on the neighboring lot that is owned by the DMD/Brownfields?  …we now hear that DMD/Brownfields is now considering using public money to subsided the commercial development of this corner lot?

IS IT TRUE the high end Maybelle and Montrose apartments located at Haynie’s Corner that being remodeled by a private developer and will rent for around $900 per month?

IS IT TRUE  you don’t need to be a rocket scientist or even an alleged Community Development expert to figure out why we have so many blighted properties in Evansville? …the answer is DMD/Brownfield is paying to much money on purchasing commercial properties and not spending enough on blighted homes?  …that it appears that Evansville’s special interest groups and politically connected people are sucking up all the financial resources that were intended to fight blight in Evansville’s?  … its time for the taxpayers  to take a public stance against the wasteful spending habits of DMD, ERC and Brownsfields Corp.?

IS IT TRUE DMD also purchased the vacant and dilapidated CVS building located on North Main for a whooping $535,000?  …the DMD has cut a deal to lease this building to ECHO Housing who in return is going to lease it to another not-for-profit organization?  …we wonder if any employee of DMD will use their own personal money to purchase this building for a future commercial development?

IS IT TRUE It appears that  search for a new IVT TECH President is over? …it;s obvious that Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann will be appointed the next President of IVY TECH statewide?

IS IT TRUE that Chancellor of IVY TECH-Evansville and former Mayor Jonathan Wienzapfel desire to be appointed as the next President of IVY TECH was taken away by a back room political deal between Governor Pence and the IVY TECH Board of Governors?

IS IT TRUE we hear that the powers that be in Indy would like to see Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke to replace Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann as Governor Pence re-election running mate?

IS IT TRUE we hear that some Democratic political movers and shakers in Indy would like for John Gregg  to tab State Representative Gail Riecken as his running mate?  …we predict that John Gregg will select someone from Northern Indiana with strong union ties to be his running mate?

IS IT TRUE if John Gregg thinks he can be elected the next Governor of Indiana by winning Vanderburgh County he is totally misguided?  …the thought that the local Union leadership can deliver a strong vote in Vanderburgh County for a State wide candidate is long over?  …Vanderburgh County is now safely in the control of the Republican party thanks to the Unions and turncoats Democrats?

IS IT TRUE todays “Readers Poll” questions; Do you feel that George Lumley effort in exposing DMD and Brownsfields bad business decisions is worthwhile?

  1. Art districts and education are transportation methods for graft. I recently read the history of F. J. Reitz. What will history say of this generation?

    • I think you’ll find that public works projects do a better job of that than “Art districts and education”, but the truth is that our current administration can use almost any vehicle for delivering the goods to their chosen ones.

    • The City Controller automatically serves out the term. Yes, Russ would be Mayor again. We’re screwed for four years regardless.

      • Time for you all to ” cross that money saving bridge”. Evansville’s roached for sure. And more CSO for the event totals for 2015. Sad situation all the way around.

Lloyd Winnecke just one heart beat away from running the state of Indiana? Now there is cause for some serious contemplation.

  3. Bloomington has the Indiana University School of Medicine. Indianapolis has IUPUI. Fort Wayne has The Indiana University School of Medicine-Fort Wayne. South Bend has Indiana University School of Medicine-South Bend.

[Drum roll here………………………………] Evansville has the “Evansville Multi-Institutional Academic Health Science Education and Research Campus.” How does that make you feel Evansville? You ready to pour your tax dollars into that?

  4. Press,
Like I have said all along – the school did not come to Evansville. Downtown property developers decided to build a building with taxpayer money and then went looking for tenants to rent space. This building was never to be build anywhere but downtown to drive downtown property values – no matter the cost to the residents of Evansville. Tax payers building downtown value and students paying the price. Special interest trumps everyone’s best interest and everyone is happy about it?

    • If this state of Indiana is one big family, then Evansville is truly the red headed step-child at the family picnic! Our legislative contingent to the General Assembly must be the laughing stock of Indianapolis.

  5. Editor, I do not think it is true that the Maybelle and Montrose apartments that will rent for $900 a month are a private developer project. It is true the Brownfields paid $350,000 for the 2 apartment buildings and then invested an estimated $80,000 in cleaning up part of the property before selling the properties to the developer for $10,000. Now according to DMD Director Coures report of 2014 the property is being developed with private investment and $100,000 of our CDBG funds. If I add all that up, and I suspect there is more, it looks to me that the public is paying to develop the property and some one else gets to collect the rent. This is why Blight in the neighborhoods is not being addressed. There simply is no money. There was money, but after special interest – the building commission is right “there is no money”.

    • So the taxpayer has “invested” $580,000 in these apartments. How many units are available and what would the true rent need to be for a reasonable ROI?

      • Director Coures reports 14 appartments. I calculate the return on the investment for the people who have to live next to an abandoned burnt out structure in the regular neighborhoods to be a very large negative ratio. This money could have taken out 100 abandoned homes and improved property values in the neighborhoods by 10 million easily.

  6. I want to know how Coures picked out the Owen house and the Maybelle and Montrose rat traps to dump money into. Did he have any set criteria to decide or did he just pick out people he liked to throw money at? The same question goes for how the contractors who hit the lottery on getting the buildings. Is it just cronyism and patronage and if it isn’t he needs to tell us what it was. Did they put out bids on these places? If they did, who all bid on them?

    • Your right no one with any savvy would waste or dare to pay 900 bucks a month for a low valuation poor infrastructure supplied “rat “n” bat” high crime area piece of crap housing. The whole area always stinks with the CSO, that’s plagued it forever. One must imagine what the heck those substructures must be like. Nasty, dank toxic waste zones.
There they would be living an terrible closed atmosphere breathing mold and God knows what else while home there. “Tinkerbell Coures” should be investigated, that stuff is just all wrong.

  7. It does look like Pence is giving Ellsperman the heave-ho for Winnie and the big bucks he brings. Gregg does need Vanderburgh if he is to ride Hillary’s coat tails to victory, but the unions are weak since Whirlpool left. The best thing he can do is get rid of the County Chairman and avoid the Dems who were on the Winnecke ticket.

    • Actually, I think Sue is choosing to go after the open position. We all know how fickle politics can be. The move she would make could be a long-term career position, while politics is never a sure thing

    • I don’t believe Pence would chose the likes of your mayor, Pence is conservative compulsive your mayor would be the boat anchor dropped through the bow when it comes to that. He’d lose with the backing he now has statewide big time. Heck all the democrats would have do is go over and outline some of the left handed stuff your mayor has sported, including the wasteful spending and Gregg and partner are in. I mean look at his weirdo staffing choices , if I were Pence once in the room with your mayor when I arrived home I would most certainly leave my shoes at the threshold.
That stuff doesn’t need to be tracked in or supported. Take the bucks he brings and leave the little fool to his own measures. Pence would have to be off rocker to pull such a stunt, I hope he does because given the past record of your little mayor that would surely torpedo Pence’s boat with his conservative base. Gregg would eat his lunch all he’d have to capitalize on is your mayors shortcomings so to speak, especially that fiasco with trying to get his old buddy who was practiced in pedophilia, on to that towns city council. Lt Governor, that creeps me out and I’m a centrist. Gross

  8. Editors and Publishers

I have looked all over, and cannot find a single place or page where a person can submit items or news to you.

If you truly want people to submit news and items, why is that not prominently placed?

The “Mole Hotline” appears gone, and the email address to submit items is nowhere to be found.

    Why is that?

    • Classy

      Thanks for the heads up.

I’m having my IT guy to look into this issue right away.

      Thanks

      Editor

      • Fantastic! Thanks! I wanted to pass a few things along, and figured others might have stuff too.
