EVSC Hosts STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Camp

More than 150 students converged on Vogel Elementary School this week for the EVSC’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Camp. The camp is for students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade and is presented in partnership with the University of Southern Indiana, Butler University and I-STEM at Purdue University.
While the camp runs all week, tomorrow media is invited to see the work students are doing. They will be working on projects related to STEM that engages them in the work of scientists, technology specialists, engineers, and/or mathematicians.
 Tomorrow each grade level will have a different focus:
  • Kindergarten: 9:30 a.m. —Creating Three Little Pigs houses with various materials that cannot be blown down by big, bad wolf
  • 1st: 9:30 a.m. —creating bouncy balls from borax
  • 2nd: 9:30 a.m. —exploring SPF factors with SPF beads and charting their data
  • 3rd: 9:30 a.m. —Using pulleys
  • 4th: 9:30 a.m. —making roller coasters
  • 5th: 9:30 a.m. —using solar ovens they build on Wednesday to check and record temperatures throughout the day
  • 6-8th: 10 a.m.: —depending on sunshine level, will create solar cars to race or be building bridges
