PROMINENT ATTORNEY AND POLITICAL ICON JOSEPH H HARRISON PASSES
Joseph H. Harrison, 86, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at his home. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1947. Thereafter, Joe graduated from the University of Notre Dame with an A.B. degree in Economics in 1951 and from law school at the University of Notre Dame in 1953. Joe was an Army veteran and practiced law in the State of Indiana and in the District of Columbia. He was a founding member and managing partner of the law firm Bowers Harrison, LLP in Evansville and Joe retired a few years ago after practicing law for 60 years. He concentrated his law practice in the business area and was well known throughout the State of Indiana. Joe was also an owner of the local Hardee’s Restaurant franchise. He was appointed by former Indiana Governor Robert Orr to the Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) in 1982 and Joe served on ORSANCO up until 2014. He also served on the Vanderburgh County Election Board and the Evansville-Vanderburgh Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for many years.
Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Julie; his son, Evansville attorney, Joseph H. Harrison, Jr., his daughters, Sara H. (Rob) Howard of Tampa, Florida and Meghann E. Harrison of Evansville; stepdaughter, Jill Ware of Evansville, stepson John P. “Jack” Lutz of Evansville, grandchildren; Joseph H. Harrison, III, Jordan Ware, Cooper Ware and Blake Ware.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the funeral home and will continue with a Mass at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Ted Tempel officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.
