University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field junior Bastian Grau (Höchstadt, Germany) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time during the 2017 outdoor season.

Traveling to the west coast for the second time this year, Grau competed in the 1,500-meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Running in a field of over 275 athletes from around the country, Grau finished 36th with a time of 3 minutes, 45.14 seconds.

Grau’s finish at the Bryan Clay Invite was good enough for an NCAA II automatic qualifying time and currently ranks second in the NCAA II this season in the 1,500-meters.

Competing at the Stanford University Invitational earlier this season, Grau earned an NCAA II automatic qualifying in the 5,000-meters with a finish that ranks as the fifth-fastest in NCAA II during the 2017 outdoor campaign.

Grau has also earned an NCAA II provisional time in the 800-meters with the 22nd fastest time in NCAA II this season.

After earning to GLVC weekly awards during the indoor season, Grau now has his second of the outdoor season. The total amount of weekly awards for the Screaming Eagles during the track & field seasons climbs to six after senior Chase Broughton (Marengo, Indiana) earned two of his own during the indoor season.

The entire Eagles team will return to action Saturday, April 22, at the Bellarmine Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
