UE completes home slate this weekend

Indiana State scored two runs in the second and went on to defeat the University of Evansville softball team by a final of 6-1 on Wednesday night at Cooper Stadium.

The Purple Aces (14-29, 7-13 MVC) notched a run on eight hits in the game.  Three came off the bat of Eryn Gould, who pushed her season average to .380.

Each team with a hit in first inning, but ISU (23-22, 10-10 MVC) was the first on the board in the second as two runs scored.  Both crossed home on a fielder’s choice including Shaye Barton coming home on one from pitcher Kylie Stober.  A single by Stober in the third added the Sycamores third run of the game.

Evansville had two hits in the first three innings, both coming off the bat of Eryn Gould.  In the fourth, Morgan Florey notched one to left field to lead off the inning.  Her hit was the first big threat of the day for the Aces as Elyse Hickey followed up with her 24th walk of the season.  Mea Adams moved Allison Daggett, who pinch ran for Florey, and Hickey to second and third on a sac bunt.  Bailee Bostic walked to load the bases, but ISU got out of the jam.

ISU added three more runs in the 7th to extend its lead to 6-0.  The Aces made a rally in the seventh with consecutive hits by Gould, Brittany Hay and Lindsay Renneisen to lead it off.  Renneisen would score on a groundout by Hickey for UE’s first run of the night, but that was all of the scoring as the Sycamores finished off the 6-1 triumph.

UE welcomes Southern Illinois this weekend for its final home series of the year.  Saturday will mark Senior Day as Brittany Hay will be recognized.  It is also Alumni Weekend.  The first 250 fans on Saturday will receive a special Purple Aces cup and a t-shirt.  Saturday’s doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. while Sunday’s finale begins at 11 a.m. at Cooper Stadium.
