“IS IT TRUE” DECEMBER 2, 2019

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE that yesterday the ADVOCATE magazine reported that “ten members of the Tri-State Alliance recently attended a board meeting of the Evansville-Vanderburgh County School Corporation to ask for greater protections for LGBTQ students”? …the ADVOCATE also reported that The Tri-State Alliance claimed that EVSC School Board member Ann Ennis stated there was no support on the board for addressing suicide concerns among “trans” students?”  …that a video posted to the group’s Facebook page, that a woman in the group identifies EVSC School Board member Ann Ennis making a gesture as if she’s playing the violin and saying “cry me a river?”  …that EVSC School Board members are the stewards of the public trust and should start acting like it?

IS IT TRUE one of the best-known secrets in Vanderburgh County is the non-commissioned analysis that current Evansville City Controller and former Mayor Russ Lloyd, Jr. recently did concerning the outcome of the 2019 City election? …we are told that his analysis was thoughtful, detailed, statistically based, a little presumptuous? …we were told that his analysis of the City Council Ward 1 and Ward 2 is an interesting read?

IS IT TRUE the pressure will be on the Vanderburgh County Council this coming Wednesday, December 4, 2019?…that members of the jail study committee will present members of the Vanderburgh County Council four (4) options to consider for the new addition to the county jail? …that the Vanderburgh County Commissioners, Vanderburgh County Sheriff, EPD, Building Authority, County Prosecutor, Jail Consultants, local Judges, and Project Engineers have done all they can in prioritizing and projecting future public safety concerns?  …it’s time for Vanderburgh County Council to step up and decide to build a new addition to our county jail that will serve local law enforcement needs for the next 20 years?…we are told that the same two County Council members may be on the verge of making the same mistake they made back in 2004 by building the current jail too small?

IS IT TRUE on December 4, 2019, at high noon at the Civic Center the Board of Park Commissioners is scheduled to approve and execute the Board Recommendation for Wesselman Par 3 Golf  Course?  …that  Commissioner Stewart will be presenting the bad news to those in attendance that enjoy playing Par 3 golf at Wesselman?

IS IT TRUE last week we read with interest in the Evansville Courier and Press that The Vectren Foundation will invest $750,000 towards the $28 million low-income housing and commercial development on North Main Street?  …we wonder if anyone can tell us where Vectren Foundation gets the money to help subsidize this for-profit development?

IS IT TRUE we should be finding out real soon who has been hired as the new Convention Visitors Bureau CEO and the Chancellor of Ivy Tech-Evansville? … we are told that both positions are attracting high-quality candidates?….we are told that by January 1, 2019, both these positions will be finalized?.

IS IT TRUE we are told that County Commissioners Jeff Hatfield and Ben Shoulders are again hosting an event in late January benefitting the”Victory Fund PAC”?…this event was well attended last year but this year are being forced to move it to a much larger location?…we are told that over 400 people have made reservations to attend this year’s event?  …last year this political fundraiser raised over $75,000 and could potentially raise around $100,000 this year?

IS IT TRUE  we are told that County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave will be announcing and filing for re-election in early January?….she will make County history by becoming the first female Commissioner to ever win re-election?… that County Commissioner Musgrave continues to be a change-maker in many ways?

IS IT TRUE we are told that we should know real soon who are the new hires for the  CEO of the Convention Visitors Bureau and the new Ivy Tech Chancellor? … we hear that both positions are attracting experienced candidates?….we expect by January 1, 2019, that both positions will be finalized?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if the Evansville City Controller Russ Lloyd Jr., CPA has paid the  Victory Theater bills for this year?

IS IT TRUE that the Honorable Vanderburgh County Circuit Court Judge for Vanderburgh County David D. Kiely is doing an outstanding job as the Circuit Court Judge for Vanderburgh County?

Today’s non-scientific but trendy “Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that its time to make a decision concerning the Vanderburgh County jail?

  1. Is it true the CCO is still considering a printed paper and when can we expect a decision? I know a number of us are hoping for a “Yes, we are!” on this. The C&P hasn’t graced the bottom of my birdcage for years and, being old fashioned, I do miss holding the news in my hand.

  2. I think they need to expand the jail. But will there be any money to staff it? According to Wedding they can’t find enough people now. They have even floated the idea of lowering the employment age to 18.
