IS IT TRUE JANUARY 23, 2018

12
We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
IS IT TRUE we have been told by reliable sources that former Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel will be announcing that he will be running for United States Congress in a few days?  …we are told that Congressional candidate Weinzapfel will be faced with the challenging task of convincing the Rick Davis supporters to vote for him?  …many local Democrats are still blaming former Mayor Wienzapfel for causing a major split in the Vanderburgh County Democratic party that allowed Lloyd Winnecke to be elected Mayor of Evansville?  …that split still exist today?  …it looks like Mr. Weinzapfel has a lot of fence-mending to do? … party chairman Scott Danks will be the key person to help heal the political wounds of the past?
IS IT TRUE it also looks like Congressional candidate Weinzapfel may have to spend a great deal of time and money to defeat a well known and highly respected primary opponent?
IS IT TRUE we are told that Congressman Larry Buschon will receive large campaign donations from the State and National Republican party but also from many special interests groups doing business in Indiana and Washington, DC?  …Vice President Mike Pence and Governor Eric Holcomb will pull out all stops to see that Congressman Larry Buschon is re-elected to Congress?
IS IT TRUE we are completely surprised that not one member of the local mainstream media hasn’t reported on the 2016 findings of the State Board Of Accounts audit for the City of Evansville?  …just in case City Controller Russ Lloyd, Jr didn’t e-mail them a copy we have attached the link to the Indiana State Boards Of Accounts audit for the City Of Evansville for 2016?  …here’s a copy of the audit reports?
IS IT TRUE we are extremely encouraged that members of our local law enforcement are putting “boots on the ground” and arresting many of the law-breaking thugs in our community?  …once our elected official’s start putting more money in the crime-fighting budgets our law enforcement professionals will be able to hire more “boots on the ground” and invest in additional up-to-date crime-fighting equipment?
IS IT TRUE the delusional belief of certain members of the mainstream media was recently on full display in yet another round of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome)?…upon a report by the President’s doctor that he is in good health with full mental capacity and tipped the scales at 239 pounds, the questions from the press were just insane?…there were questions about how many bowls of ice cream or McDonalds burgers that the President consumes which was simply surreal?…we didn’t know the press cared so much about the President’s waistline?…seeing so many reporters masquerading as nutritionists, mental health doctors, or swami’s at the carnival who guess people’s weight was simply comical? …there are those who say that President Trump acts like a spoiled brat and sometimes he does, but in reality, it is the press that needs to also grow up, get their emotions in check and start to concentrate on issues of importance to Americans? …Jon Webb of the Courier and Press gets it that saying the word sh—hole to describe certain places that reporters don’t go on vacation does not constitute the start of world war three?
IS IT TRUE it was encouraging to learn that Vectren is making a major investments in solar farms to offset some of the carbon that is polluting the air in Evansville on a daily basis?…this is a good first step and we are glad that Vectren has joined the modern world by putting a solar field on vacant land owned by the City of Evansville? …as prices of solar panels have crashed to nearly nothing and land in SW Indiana is cheap, we hope that similar investments will result in a rate decrease for certain people of this region when it comes to utility bills?
IS IT TRUE that the freezing weather has once again taken a toll on the century-old dilapidated water pipes that still are in use in many parts of Evansville?…there have been multiple reports of these old cast iron pipes bursting and creating havoc under roads, yards, and even inside of buildings?…for a place that is addicted to spending millions of dollars on fun and games, just sit and by and watch another year of bursting pipes? … then they shriek in amazement that such a thing could happen really makes the those who shriek look like they were born last summer?…we often wonder if the leadership of Evansville has any memory at all because like the dog that keeps chasing the car after getting run over, they seemly keep being surprised by the exact same predictable disasters?  ..the harsh reality is that it may be a matter of time before that spiffy new $18 million bike path bike path has a pipe burst under it and collapses too?
IS IT TRUE that the snow is also causing problems for the people who need to drive to work or to stores?…the absolute astonishment of people who just moved in from a colder climate where local governments are equipped to remove snow is comical?…at least the locals don’t have the expectation of a plow coming by their home on any kind of schedule but these new people can’t believe the sad state of affairs?…on the humor side, we must remind our readers of the days when Yukon Cornelius was chasing the Abominable Snow Bumble in downtown Evansville and slipped on that sidewalk and broke his hip?…it would have been better if Yukon had fallen on the Bumble because as we all know from our childhood that Bumbles Bounce?
IS IT TRUE the former DCS Director Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura is joining the staff of Attorney General Curtis Hill?  … that former judge Bonaventura said, “I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with (Attorney General) Hill on continuing the fight against the opioid crisis and tackling the many challenges facing Hoosiers and their families”?  …we are fortunate the talents and experience of former Judge Bonaventura will continue to be available to us?
Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that its time that our elected official’s start investing more money in the crime-fighting budgets?

  1. The swamp is deeper than we ever could have imagined and Obama found willing conspirators among the top brass when he weaponized the IRS, DOJ and even the FBI to oppose his political opponents. This is an emerging scandal that should send many to prison:
    ……………………….
“There is serious talk on Capitol Hill about the appointment of a second special counsel amid several new bombshell revelations swirling around the Trump/Russia probe. First, there are the allegations of shocking and substantial government surveillance abuses under President Obama outlined in the FISA abuse memo. Secondly, the FBI lost five months of key text messages between the anti-Trump/pro-Clinton FBI officials Peter Strzok and his mistress Lisa Page. And now there’s talk of a “secret society” of officials within the FBI that apparently met the day after the election of Donald J. Trump to plot against the president-elect.

The thousands of texts @TGowdySC and I reviewed today revealed manifest bias among top FBI officials against @realDonaldTrump. The texts between Strzok and Page referenced a “secret society.”

    • Perhaps this puts Watergate, a third rate break-in in the back seat . . .as the one Congressman stated, “this is the KGB” . .remember when Trump said his phones were tapped by Obama . . and of course the mainstreamers cried foul . . .

      • ALL criminals bitch about the Cops, law enforcement officials, the Prosecutor and the Judge who finds them eventually guilty.

They ALL think the law is out to get them. Charles Manson, OJ, Bill Clinton….all of them bitched about how the law was out to get them.

They are criminals. What do you expect?

You and JoeBiden write like dumb thugs, and we all know dumb thugs do what they are told. Get over it. If he’s not guilty, then he don’t have anything to worry about.

        • Here is the not-so secret society of deep state liberal swamp creatures at the FBI working to ensure that their beloved Hillary wins the election:
          ……………………………………………………..
Strzok wasn’t the only Mueller deputy who engaged in compromising behavior. Andrew Weissmann, a veteran prosecutor assigned to Mueller’s legal team, praised Sally Yates, an Obama-administration holdover at the Trump Justice Department, for refusing to carry out President Trump’s immigration order.

It’s now been learned that Weissmann attended Hillary Clinton’s election night party in New York – a clear sign of his political leanings.

          There’s more.

Another Mueller deputy is Jeannie Rhee, the former personal attorney of Ben Rhodes, the Obama deputy national security adviser. She also provided legal counsel to the Clinton Foundation and was also a generous donor to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

In yet another disturbing case, another person on Mueller’s legal team, Aaron Zebley, turns out to have been until 2015 the lawyer for Justin Cooper. Who is Cooper? Oh, just the IT staffer who set up Hillary Clinton’s unauthorized server at her home.

After Hillary Clinton’s email scandal broke out, Zebley was identified as the person who smashed Clinton’s BlackBerries with a hammer in fear they would be subpoenaed. Zebley, who was Mueller’s chief of staff when both served in the FBI, is now on Mueller’s team probing the Trump administration and campaign.

But the most disturbing case yet is that of Bruce Ohr, who was until recently the fourth-ranking Justice Department official. Ohr has been demoted, now that’s its been learned he had unauthorized contacts with Fusion GPS, the dirt-digging outfit responsible for the Clinton-funded, anti-Trump “dossier.”

The dossier could have been one source of the decision to launch the original FBI investigation of possible “Trump collusion” with Russia. And it might be part of the evidence a federal court considered in granting power to wiretap Trump associates during the 2016 campaign.

Ohr was not a disinterested party in his unauthorized contacts with Fusion GPS. His wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS during the 2016 campaign, when portions of the firm’s discredited anti-Trump dossier was leaked just before Election Day.

          • Mueller is interrogating the ATTORNEY GENERAL, Jeff Sessions, of the Trump Cabinet now.

You oughta be scared JoeB. Now I know why you write all this “preparing for your defense in advance of being INDICTED crap.”

(Which, we all notice, is not a news article at all, its somebody’s opinion…I mean, Diana Ross? She has an opinion too. Joe Piscopo? He has an opinion. Guys in jail? They have opinions. People preparing for an indictment? Yes! Even they have an opinion!!)

        • He doesn’t have anything to worry about. That’s the point joe is trying to make. Do you honestly believe Vlad is somehow beholden to Trump before he was president—come on. I don’t like him, but pay attention to the abject bias that surrounds him. I don’t want to drink a beer with him, but his policy is spot on.

    • secret society. Right. The dumb thugs have been handed “news” from the gateway pundit saying somebody heard somebody saying they thought there was a secret society.

Will somebody go out and give the dumb thugs some more corn alcohol swill? They’re bitchin’ its cold outside, and maybe they’ll shut the hell up.

  2. If Trump weighs 239 Im Santa Claus. If he in fact has no old age ailments, then the way he behaves is who he is. That is even more scary. If he had at least that would explain some of his actions. AG being questioned by Mueller- Trump may be in deep so this all may be a mute point.

  3. I don’t expect Evansville to have the same ability to clear snow and ice as our northern counterparts. It frankly wouldn’t make much sense for the City to spend a fortune on snow removal equipment which would sit idle the vast majority of the time. HOWEVER…

I flat don’t believe the statistics the City has trotted out about how much work they did to clear streets during this recent snowfall. The press releases can trumpet about applying ‘X’ tons of ice/salt, working ‘Y’ hours of overtime, etc., but I tend to believe my own lying eyes over the soothing words of Todd Robertson. The fact that school was cancelled for an entire week in the EVSC system because side streets remained unpassable and unsafe 5 DAYS AFTER THE LAST FLAKE HAD FALLEN should be a wake up call. I didn’t see a city plow on my street until last Thursday (I live on a busy feeder street between main roads near UE), and it had it’s plow UP as it was driving by. Bizarre. Even main roads like Boeke and Weinbach remained sketchy until the weather really got warmer.

“…as we all know from our childhood that Bumbles Bounce?”

That’s pretty clever, Editor. If I hadn’t rewatched ‘Rudolph’ recently due to the holidays I would have been scratching my head…

  4. ” …once our elected official’s start putting more money in the crime-fighting budgets our law enforcement professionals will be able to hire more “boots on the ground” and invest in additional up-to-date crime-fighting equipment?”

I’m not sure if the issue is as much a lack of LE personnel available as it is the ALLOCATION of those individuals. There are 287 sworn members of the EFD, which makes a ratio of roughly 2.4 officers per 1,000 citizens (basically in line with what the FBI gives as the national average). However, a fair number of those officers do NOT serve in the uniformed patrol division, who are of course the guys and gals we think of when we think of the number of cops on the street. EPD responded to approximately 172,000 dispatched runs in 2016 – – that’s an average of 470 runs per day for those of you good at math. A huge number. It would be interesting to know exactly how many EPD officers serve in specialty units/assignments or administrative positions versus how many officers are strictly patrol officers (the ‘boots on the ground’ I presume The Editor is speaking of).

And don’t get me wrong, specialty units can be an important part of the overall law enforcement picture. So I’m not making a judgement saying the number of officers assigned to these units is too high, too low, or just right. I do, however, think if we are to advocate for hiring more officers than are currently called for under contract we should know if those additional hires would indeed = ‘boots on the ground’. I am personally stunned that anybody in their right mind would consider a career in law enforcement in this day and age, and think we have gotten damn lucky to find enough good men and women who still want to serve their community as Evansville Police Officers.

  5. The job at IVY Tech must be pretty easy and boring if old Weinzapfel can run in a contested primary and an election while holding that job. Is he going to quit, or will the taxpayers who support his salary have to demand his resignation? I don’t think it is legal to spend tax money on a campaign. Weinzapfel’s salary is funded by taxes so the people of Indiana own his time.
