The University of Evansville Women’s Basketball Team Travels To Iowa

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The University of Evansville women’s basketball team travels to Iowa for a pair of road Missouri Valley Conference contests this weekend. The Purple Aces open the weekend against UNI at 7 p.m. on Friday night in Cedar Falls, Iowa before traveling to Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

A full week separates the Aces from their last competition when Evansville fell to Indiana State, 56-48, in a defensive struggle in Terre Haute last Friday night. The Aces controlled the opening half, taking a 25-15 lead to the halftime break. Indiana State battled back in the third quarter, cutting its deficit to just one at 36-35 heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, the Sycamores went on a 20-13 run as Indiana State grabbed the 56-48 win.

The Aces head to Iowa for a two-game set  starting with a Friday night showdown with UNI. UE and the Panthers have met on 51 previous occasions with UNI owning a 32-19 advantage in the all-time series. The two sides last met on March 11, 2017 when UNI earned an 82-58 win over the Purple Aces in the MVC Tournament semifinals in the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois. The Panthers enter Friday’s matchup with a 6-9 overall record and a 2-2 mark in MVC play and are coming off a pair of losses on the road to Southern Illinois and Missouri State.

Evansville wraps-up its three-game road trip on Sunday with a matchup with Drake. UE and the Bulldogs have met on 53 previous occasions with Drake owning a 39-14 advantage in the all-time series. The two sides last met on February 5, 2017 when Drake captured a 73-48 win over the Aces at the Ford Center in Evansville. The Bulldogs enter Sunday’s showdown with a 9-7 overall record and an unblemished 4-0 mark in MVC action. Drake is currently riding a four-game winning streak since starting MVC play and is led by this week’s MVC Player of the Week, Becca Hittner.
