IS IT TRUE NOVEMBER 16, 2017

We hope that todays “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE we have been informed that the City of Evansville just went into a meeting around 9:00 AM this morning with the Indiana State Board of Accounts auditors?  …at todays exit conference the State Board of Accounts auditors told city officials what they discovered while doing an audit review of the City of Evansville 2016 budget year?  …we hear that some of the findings by the auditor are very interesting?

IS IT TRUE that the Vanderburgh County Commissioners are considering an ordinance establishing a County Riverboat Casino Fund ?  … attached is the link to this ordinance for you to read?

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A COUNTY RIVERBOAT CASINO FUND

…we wonder if this ordinance has the proper “checks and balances”  in order to insure that these funds will be used by our County Commissioners for much needed capital projects?  …we wonder what do you think about this proposed ordinance?

IS IT TRUE that we understand that Deaconess Hospital will now be offering online doctor visits?…this is a forward looking action to take and we congratulate the management team at Deaconess for this decision?…telemedicine as such things are referred to is a tremendous cost saving activity in addition to offering potentially life-saving diagnostics in an emergency case prior to transporting a patient to a care facility?…it is good to see an Evansville business being an early adopter in such an impactful field like telemedicine?

IS IT TRUE that confidential sources tells us at the last Solid Waste Committee meeting the issue of the cost of new garbage cans was discussed? …we are that the costs to purchase new garbage cans may be a bit pricey?

IS IT TRUE we are pleased that the “Trolley of Evansville District” met its fund raising goal?  …we would like to congratulate Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville and the Franklin Street Events Association for raising more than $25,000 for this project?  …because this group raised the necessary funds they will now receive a $25,000 grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority?  …the “Trolley of Evansville District” plans are to connect bars, hotels and restaurants located on West Franklin Street, Main Street, and Haynie’s Corner? …we would also like to give five (5) cheers to Amy Word-Smith for spearheading this fundraiser?

IS IT TRUE that UCLA head basketball coach and former IU all American Steve Alford left three of the UCLA player in China after the three morons decided to shoplift sunglasses from a mall in a foreign country?…we understand that President Trump intervened to get the three thieves released to come home without the consequences often associated with committing crimes overseas?…once upon a time an American punk named Michael Fay exercised his American freedom of expression to graffiti a car in Singapore and found himself on the receiving end of a caning?…Fay was sentenced to 6 strokes with a cane but President Bill Clinton talked it down to 4?…a caning is certainly worse than the paddling(s) some of us older folks got in school but it has the same impact on future behavior?…we have not heard of Michael Fay painting anything since then nor have we heard of any American painting a car in Singapore?…perhaps the three punk ball players from UCLA should have faced a caning too?…we will not be surprised to hear about them stealing again as there was no consequence?…perhaps their flight from justice will ruin their lives?

Todays READERS POLL question is: Do you feel that the State of Indiana should allow alcohol sales on Sunday?

  1. The casino is not in the business to support Evansville and Vanderburgh County. We are painfully aware the city administration does whatever they damn well please with the money. Guess the county wants their own source of gambling funds to spend how they damn well please. Should be interesting reading after the auditors leave. Can’t wait for Lloyd’s explanation of how he launders the city’s money!!!
