IS IT TRUE JUNE 28, 2017

IS IT TRUE we were told that officials at Henderson Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Hospital are discussing issues of economic concerns? …could it be that Deaconess Hospital has a strong interest in purchasing Henderson Methodist Hospital in the very near future? …that Henderson Methodist Hospital is the largest employer in Henderson County and has a major economic impact in the region?  …we have been told by creditable sources within Deaconess system that a take over deal concerning Henderson Methodist Hospital and Deaconess could be closely at hand?  …if members of the local main stream media would had attended last weeks Henderson Methodist Hospital Board of Directors meeting they would know the answer to this question?  ….this is a developing story?
IS IT TRUE the stress level that our first responders experience on a daily basis is unreal?   … every time they answer an emergency call it could turn deadly at a blink of an eye?  …we believe members of our local law enforcement and fire fighters are grossly underpaid considering their job responsibilities?  …they have an extremely dangerous and stressful job?  …in fact many of our first responders feel unappreciated?
IS IT TRUE last year we observed some of our local elected officials giving long and flowery speeches at a rally in front of the Civic Center in support of our local first responders?  … the only thing we hear from the locally elected officials today is the sound of silence? … its time for the movers and shakers of this community call the masses to assemble on the Civic Center steps to give “we love and support our first responders” speeches?  …It’s time we give our first responders a public display of support showing them how much they are really appreciated?
IS IT TRUE that the Washington Square is losing another business with the relocation of Salon 3 to the north side?…that makes two businesses to shut down since Washington Square was sold to an out of state landlord last November?…the other business to shut down was Treasures Antiques that had been in business for over a decade?…with the rash of Sears stores closing it is only a matter of time until the only remaining anchor store is history?…when it opened Washington Square was the first big indoor mall in Indiana and drew people from hundreds of miles to shop?…Washington Square however was the shopping district that killed downtown Evansville?…in the late 1970s Eastland Mall was built and eventually inflicted much damage on Washington Square leaving it delegated to a Sears and a bunch of non-mall types of businesses like second hand stores, a call center, and some medical providers?…Evansville always has been a one shopping location town and times haven’t changed?…with the recent vacancies at Eastland, Evansville may be morphing into a no shopping district town under the pressure of online shopping?
IS IT TRUE that everyday something new and bizarre is learned about the financial doldrums of the State of Illinois?…with over $14 Billion in unpaid bills, the billion dollars of penalties and late fees on the books with no end in sight and no budget in years, it looks like Illinois is heading the way of Venezuela and Puerto Rico?…Indiana’s neighbor to the west is on the verge of becoming one big blue progressive banana republic on the watch list for bankruptcy?…it all started with an obsession with borrowing to build fun and games projects and operating a political patronage machine?…while Evansville is many years away from an Illinois style meltdown, Evansville is following the same path to ruin with unpaid medical obligations, payments on non-performing assets like the Ford Center and an obsession with tossing good money at a losing zoo to indulge a penguin fetish?…if these things come to pass the terms Evanzuela and Evanois may become more descriptive of River City than its own name?
IS IT TRUE that another house explosion rocked Evansville today and this time it was on Hercules Street?…this is the third time in recent history that a fire/explosion happened at a residence?…there was a big explosion in East Evansville that blew an entire house up on Lincoln Avenue that turned out to have been caused by a gas leak that was filtered through dirt so the gas didn’t smell?…that was a tragic accident indeed?…the usual suspect when a house goes boom in an area plagued with meth labs has always been a meth cook gone bad?…it was a short 6 years ago that the Fall Creek Subdivision in Newburgh was awakened by a meth lab gone wild that eventually burned down the house and contaminated the soil in the process?…that time the meth cook took off running and left his girlfriend in the house to fend for herself?…he was of course eventually caught but there is still a contaminated foundation in a middle class neighborhood in Newburgh in need of remediation?…there have been many other instances where meth labs blew up hotel rooms or started fires in homes?…it is yet to be determined what the cause of yesterday’s fire was but it is known that two people lost their lives and another three were injured in the explosion?…it is also known that the tenant/resident was about to be evicted by the landlord?…it will be interesting to learn just what caused the explosion on Hercules as it has been a while since such a thing happened?
Todays “READERS POLL” question is: If the election were held today for Democratic party nomination for Mayor of Evansville who would you vote for?

Have things improved any, or have they just gotten worse?

  1. “Evanzuela and Evanois” Classic.

But then with our build, blow and burn meth labs we could break bad and self identify as “Heisenburg.”

  2. Treasures “Antique” Shop in Washington Square Mall wasn’t a business. It was an eyesore owned by a hoarder. He also leased several of the vacated Washington Square Mall storefronts to store more of his amassed horde.

  3. Drove on the undersized N. Main Street project today. Was any weed block barrier put under the pavers for the limited undersized street side parking? Weeds were growing like crazy between the pavers. It was an eyesore, but actually blended in with the generally dilapidated looking homes in the area.
